Hazaar are a six piece virtuosic klezmer band from Devon consisting of clarinet/sax, violin, flute, guitar, double bass and drums. A versatile band that perform traditional klezmer music from the Balkans and beyond with a twist. Described as "Eastern European Yiddish folk-rock", Hazaar combine elements of funk, rock, klezmer and gypsy jazz within their infectious arrangements. Instantly recognisable, Hazaar are the leading band on the Klezmer scene in Devon. Performing across the South West with their upbeat, high octane sound, they are a force to be reckoned with. Hazaar have spent the last 15 years absorbing the rich folk music traditions of Jewish Eastern Europe, Greece and the Balkans. Their diverse background and mix of talented musicians has created a unique sound. A top notch klezmer party band guaranteed to bring laughter, song and dance! Thank you so much for a wonderful evening at our wedding on 16th July. We were blown away by the music and your energy. Many of our family said that they hadn't danced like that for years! We couldn't think of a more perfect band for our wedding evening, dancing the night away. We were so happy to see everyone enjoying the music and dancing as much as we were. Can you please pass on to the whole band how much I appreciated you all coming on Saturday to play at my party. You’re so impressive musically, so much fun to listen to too, and display such range within and on the edges of the Klezmer genre that I am blown away every time I hear you. All evening people were saying wonderful things about you, and my son Alexander is desperate to record you. It is a real privilege that I can hear you play here in my own house, even if just occasionally! It was a real treat for all those who came. With best wishes to all, and thanks again.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Our clients love that we appeal to all ages. Our set is fun and guaranteed to get a full dance floor.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

We have performed at a wide range of venues and festivals. Barns, yurts, The Phoenix in Exeter, The Marine Theatre Lyme Regis, manor houses across the UK.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

We have been influenced by artists such as Goran Bregović , Emir Kusterica, Frank London, Gorgol Bordello, Django Reinhardt to say the least

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

The most high profile gig we have played was most probably Beautiful Days festival alongside acts such as the Levellers, Jimmy Cliff, Bellowhead, Tinarawen. We have also performed at more obscure events with celebrities in attendance such as private exhibitions and weddings.

Do you have different line-up options?

Our line up is Guitar, Clarinet, Drums, Flute, Violin and Double Bass. We are able to provide a smaller combo for more intimate/acoustic events. For the full Hazaar sound we recommend the full 6 piece band.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible and ensure your event runs smoothly. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event please let us know. We understand timings can change and speeches etc can over run, this is understandable and we will accommodate you needs with some leeway.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely. We offer this service for free and can provide our own playlist or use one of yours, whichever is preferable.

How much time do you need to set up?

We require 1 hour if a PA is being used, 30 minutes if completely acoustic without amplification.

Can you roam around while you perform?

We have been known to roam freely! We can do this acoustically. For the 6 piece band we would stop and play a song, if a smaller combination of instrumentation we can play and walk...

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Our set lists are crafted from countless performances and learning what works best to ensure guests dance and have an amazing time. However, we're definitely happy to chat through and make sure we find what works for your event.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

Our PA system is included in our quote. We usually require an hour to set up for an amplified set.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

We can learn a song for a first dance and are happy to do so. For this there is a fee of £30 to take into account the additional rehearsal time needed.
