Customer questions
What do your clients love most about your performances?
The atmosphere we create. Judging the vibe of the occasion and setting the mood perfectly to suit the guests.
We're very much a no-fuss kind of ensemble: turn up, setup, play, pack down and leave with next to no equipment/electrical requirements from the venue/clients.
You can tell by our musicianship and stage presence that we're seasoned professionals.
Which venues have you performed at in the past?
Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club
Love Supreme Festival
Pizza Express Jazz Club, Soho
Vortex Jazz Club
606 Jazz Club
Cheltenham Jazz Festival
The Jazz Bar, Edinburgh
Birmingham Symphony Hall
SXSW Festival, Texas
Glastonbury Festival
Roundhouse, London
Hammersmith Apollo
The Blue Lamp, Aberdeen
Mandrakia Arts Festival, Greece
And many more..
Which artists have you been most influenced by?
Miles Davis
Herbie Hancock
Duke Ellington
John Coltrane
Thelonious Monk
Roy Hargrove
Oscar Peterson
Bill Evans
Wayne Shorter
Charlie Parker
Ella Fitzgerald
Louis Armstrong
Sonny Rollins
Dizzy Gillespie
What is the most high profile gig you've performed?
Love Supreme Festival
Will the singer be the same as who I see in the videos?
The group will always be led by Nye Banfield on saxophone, but the rhythm section may differ depending on availability. All musicians graduating from Conservatoires and with over 15 years of experience in the profession.
Do you have different line-up options?
Our main line-up is a quartet: Sax, keys, drums and double bass.
If you would like some vocals, we often invite a singer into the band to expand to a Quintet.
We can also operate as a trio: Sax, keys and drums or bass depending on sound/space requirements.
A duo is another option: Sax and bass or keys.
Unfortunately solo sax is not an option.. sorry!
What if my timings change after I've booked you?
We know that event planning is a complicated thing, so we always try our best to be as flexible as possible. Just let us know and as long as it doesn't impact any other commitments we have, we'll be there!
Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?
Absolutely, we can play suitable music in between sets, and whilst setting up/packing down. There is no extra fee for this, although we can't stick around DJ'ing all night I'm afraid!
How much time do you need to set up?
One of the benefits of a Jazz Ensemble, is quick and easy set-up/pack down. We're virtually acoustic, so don't need a PA system, and can squeeze into the smallest of corners.
We've been known to setup and play in 5 minutes before... but you can expect it to take half an hour from arrival to ready-to-go.
Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?
Absolutely, just let us know in advance!
Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?
Yes, although we don't require a PA and unfortunately don't have access to a lighting system.
Can you learn song requests before the event?
If you'd like to request a song or two which aren't on our list, we can learn material from a wide range of genres. We charge £40 per external song request.
