Hannah started playing the clarinet at the age of eight. After finishing A levels at Bournemouth School for Girls, she gained a first-class BMus from Canterbury Christ Church University, where she studied clarinet with Margaret Archibald and Carol Basden. Hannah enjoys playing a variety of music, from orchestral to pit bands, from chamber music to solo recitals. She has performed with Cantabilé, Bournemouth University, Broadstone Young Musicians, Westbourne Orchestral Society, Canterbury University Orchestra and Wessex Youth Orchestra, at venues including: Royal Albert Hall Birmingham Symphony Hall Canterbury Cathedral Christchurch Priory Poole Lighthouse Hannah has also played in a number of musicals including Thoroughly Modern Millie, Oklahoma, My Fair Lady, Anything Goes and The Wizard of Oz. She regularly enjoys performing as a soloist, giving recitals in a variety of settings, including churches in Bournemouth and Poole, Bournemouth Library, and the Lantern Community in Ringwood, where recitals are aimed at toddlers and young children. Hannah is based in Bournemouth, and currently learns both clarinet and bass clarinet with Helen Paskins. Alongside performing she makes a career from woodwind teaching, working occasionally as a librarian in Bournemouth Libraries, is a workshop leader for Boogie Mites, delivering music in pre-schools, and for Musica Music, facilitating music sessions for health and wellbeing in care homes.

I have had the pleasure of working with Hannah for the past four years on various orchestral, musical theatre and educational projects. Hannah has a beautiful, lyrical tone that blends well within a section and is coupled with confident projection that makes her a first choice for taking exposed and leading lines. Hannah is also confident around children and with a calm and professional manner, drawing on her teaching experience, makes her ideal for educational projects. Background: I am the Chairman of Brompton Court (Bournemouth) Management Company. Brompton Court is a retirement complex with 66 flats. Although the Chairman’s job is largely related to the upkeep of the facility I also get involved in organising entertainment for the residents. I heard Hannah play at a recital given at Bournemouth Library and after the performance asked her whether she would be interested in coming to play at Brompton Court. She said ‘yes’, so we discussed details and fixed a date in June 2019. We have a fairly tight budget so agreed she used a backing system rather than accompanist. Performance: Hannah arrived in good time to get set up and then played two sessions comprising 6 pieces in each of popular music for the saxophone and clarinet including Summertime, Stranger on the Shore, Edelwiess and Moon River. The audience particularly enjoyed the couple of times she left the platform and played walking amongst them. Feedback: was very positive and we will be inviting her back this Autumn.
