About Helen Vincent

Reliable soprano, with beautiful quality of tone. Achieved distinction in Vocal Performance at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (PgDip).
Singer (soprano)
Maidstone
Public liability insurance of £10 million

Helen is admired for her purity of sound, finding inspiration in a range of styles. She has a wealth of choral experience in addition to her solo singing and has performed with renowned choirs such as Ex Cathedra and National Youth Chamber Choir. At present she sings regularly with the Birmingham Oratory consort, directed by Myriam Toumi. Helen graduated with a BA in Music from the University of Leeds in 2010, and has gone on to sing as a soloist with a number of choral societies as well as teaching both the voice and violin. She is also passionate about equal opportunities in cathedral music, having blazed the trail for future generations at Lincoln Cathedral in 2011, becoming the first woman to be employed as a singer on an otherwise all male back row, and subsequently as Bristol Cathedral’s first female Lay Clerk from 2016-19. Helen has an excellent command over her vocal technique. She has a beautiful voice which she uses with fluency and intelligence in performance. A highly intelligent musician, Helen thinks deeply about the interpretative side of her work. She sets high standards for herself in terms of choice of repertoire and the level at which she strives to deliver. Helen engages with her fellow musicians at a very high level. Her impressive levels of music making are always evident

Helen Vincent has produced outstanding work in the small professional Bristol-based octet, The Melgas Consort. In thirteen performances across 2018-2020 she has brought outstanding musicianship and her quite beautiful soprano voice to early choral works by Melgas, Cardoso, Morales, and Victoria and also to contemporary repertoire by Howells, Muhly, and Part. Her exposed solo work in James MacMillan’s Data est mihi omnis potestas and Eriks Esenvald’s O salutaris hostia was both accomplished and breath-taking. A reliable and inspiring colleague. Director, The Melgas Consort

Customer questions

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I have performed in many different venues over the years with well-known choirs such as NYCGB and Ex Cathedra, including English cathedrals, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Abbey Road Studios and Live on the radio!

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

I love the work of vocal ensembles such as Voces 8 and I Fagiolini. They bring a lot of joy and serenity to their performances and really bring out the beauty in the music.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I will do my best to accommodate any changes where possible. However, please try to let me know as far in advance as possible if you need to change anything. If you are requesting a different day, or an earlier time than the one arranged, I may request compensation for the cost of amending a train booking, for example.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Unfortunately I am not licensed to play recordings outside of a private setting. Therefore I will not be able to provide this service.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Of course. If you have any particular requests, please let me know in good time (ideally a month). Although my specialism is in classical singing, I am open to other genres.
