Graeme began playing piano at 11 years old and then tenor horn a few years later. At the age of 16 he made the switch to euphonium and joined Kings Park Brass, a non-competitive brass band based in Glasgow.
In 2011 he joined Johnstone Band and took up the position of assistant percussionist. Over the course of the next two years Graeme had taught himself to play tuned percussion, snare drum and timpani and was promoted to principal percussionist. He frequently played with other brass bands in Scotland including Coalburn and Kirkintilloch, accompanying soloists at the European Festival of Brass. Graeme regularly performed with the Glasgow Orchestral Society in venues including Glasgow City Halls and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
In 2014 Graeme moved to Huddersfield to study BMus Performance (Hons) at the University of Huddersfield and also joined Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band, a world renowned brass band under the direction of Phillip McCann. Since joining CMFCB Graeme has performed in Birmingham Symphony Hall, Bridgewater Hall and the Royal Albert Hall.
In 2015 Graeme performed with the University of Huddersfield Brass Band at the UniBrass competition where they won 2nd place overall and the best percussion section prize.
Graeme moved to Cardiff in 2017 to study MMus Orchestral Percussion & Timpani at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. His teachers include Patrick King (Principal Timpanist WNO), Steve Barnard (Principal Timpanist BBC NOW), Henry Baldwin (Co-Principal Percussion LPO) and Owen Gunnell (O-Duo). Graeme plays with a selection of ensembles in and around Cardiff, including The Cory Band.
He has performed with a variety ensembles including Welsh National Opera, NASUWT, Huddersfield Philharmonic Orchestra, Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra, Halifax Symphony Orchestra, Haffner Orchestra and Hallam Sinfonia.
