Gordon Jenkins 2003 Stanley Wainwright Memorial Trophy Winner British Open Championships Gordon JenkinsThis years Stanley Wainwright Memorial Trophy for the “Best Soloist” at the British Open, was won by Gordon Jenkins, the 46 year old soprano player with the Whitburn Band from Scotland. On a piece that certainly had it moments of terror for the flugel, solo cornet, euphonium and horn, it was the soprano part that was perhaps the most fiendishly difficult of them all, and so it was quite deserving that for the second year in a row the award was given to a soprano player.

Dr David Smale 161 Galashiels Road Stow Galashiels Scottish Borders TD1 2RE 01/03/2018 Gordon Jenkins – Trumpet Player On 22 July 2017 my daughter was married in Galashiels. I asked Gordon if he would play in the church. He played The Prince of Denmark’s March by Jeremiah Clarke as we processed into the church, and Trumpet Voluntary by John Stanley as we left. He also played in a hymn, Jesus Stand Among Us, by Graham Kendrick. He attended a rehearsal at the church with the organist. Throughout the rehearsals and performance Gordon was extremely professional, accommodating and nothing was too much trouble for him. His bright clean trumpet playing proved to be the icing on the cake of the church ceremony. I have been contacted by many people who attended the church, commenting on his excellent playing. I am very pleased to recommend Gordon to anybody wishing to add a musical touch of class to their occasion. David Smale
