About Gisela

I'm a very experienced and passionate performer, keen to make your event special- as classical Singer or Pianist - or as a Singing Pianist!
Singing pianist
London
Public liability insurance of £10 million
Verified profile

I was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. In my undergraduate studies in Frankfurt I took piano as principal subject and cello as second subject. I then carried on with postgraduate studies in Weimar. Piano solo/Chamber music/Song accompaniment . In London, I obtained a Masters in Performance (accompaniment) at the GSMD and studied singing privately with Jessica Cash. I perform regularly as pianist and singer - more recently, as a Singing pianist as well. I love connecting to my audiences on a personal level and stay in touch with a lot of people, some of whom even became friends. I lead regular free Singalongs online that I created for her local community during the first lockdown. I also create recording backing tracks for singers and instrumentalists - currently for several albums of tenor Aidan Crowley, available for sale on bandcamp. My second passion is teaching - I teach various musical subjects privately and am tutor for Piano, Classical Singing and Chamber Music at the City Lit Institute, doing occasional accompaniment and deputising work for Cello classes. I also works as a freelance musician and regularly play for recitals of students in London’s music colleges, and work as external advisor, accompanist and cello teacher for City and Islington Sixth Form college. I mainly play classical pieces or perform songs from the shows and lighter repertoire, as Singing pianist. But I am up for mingling with passionate musicians and artists of any kind, so it was a pleasure for me to be involved in a cross-over project, where I worked with Indian composer Baluji Shrivastav for his production “Sohini and Mahival", which was performed at the Southbank Centre as part of the Alchemy Festival.

A number of years ago I produced a little concert in Queen's Park, London. But who to ask to be the Musical Director and Pianist? There is no doubt that Gisela Meyer is a superb pianist. The depth and emotion of her playing and her empathy to accompany the singer, especially one as eccentric as myself (!), is difficult to match. So impressed was I with Gisela that years later, most recently when recording some new albums of both classical aria and contemporary musical theatre songs, it was Gisela I immediately asked. Her wealth of understanding multiple genres of music, the fact that she is also an accomplished singer herself, brought home to me the necessity to have Gisela record the music for these new works. It is of great compliment to say, you would work with someone again and again, without hesitation and that I can attest to, with Gisela. - Aidan J Crowley, Oxford 2020

It was great to see so many people in Church last night – of all ages – and as always your wonderful technique shone through what was, by any stretch of the imagination, a very demanding programme. Congratulations. Father John

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I’ll do my best to accommodate time changes, where possible. Unless the day itself changes, I would expect to be fairly flexible to help you in this respect.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Since I am a classical musician, this would usually not apply- I regret to say that I cannot provide such a service.

How much time do you need to set up?

I would not need any time to set up- I can currently only accept gigs with a piano on site. However, I would need a few minutes to try the instrument.

If I have a piano at my venue, are you happy to perform on that?

Definitely, as long as the piano is in working order and in tune, I’ll be very happy to play on it!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

I’m very happy to take notes of requests- as long as the sheet music is made available to me. In the -rather unlikely - event that I would be asked to perform a piece that is only available from a recording, I might still be able to do that but this would incur an extra fee, depending on the length and complexity of the piece in question.

Are you able to bring your own piano or keyboard?

Sadly, at this point I do not have a portable keyboard or a car for transporting it.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

I’m very happy to take notes of requests- as long as the sheet music is made available to me. If very difficult, it would incur an extra fee of £30. If I were asked to perform a piece that is only available from a recording, I might be able to do that, but this would incur an extra fee, depending on the length and complexity of the piece in question.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

My enthusiasm during the performance. Clients have been happy about my choice of background music and said it contributed to a good atmosphere at the event. People attest that I am reliable and a good communicator.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Three concerts for three separate book launches, one of which also featured baroque singer Emma Kirkby. Background music venues include: IAC conference , Institute of Education, UCL London (2017) Various smaller events, usually churches City Lit Institute, reception after awards ceremony - with Her Royal Highness, Princess Ann, as guest of honour. (2019)

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Mauricio Pollini, Martha Argerich, Emil Gilels,

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

At the City Lit Institute, reception following the awards ceremony - with Her Royal Highness, Princess Ann, as guest of honour. (2019)
