Freya is currently in third year at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where she studies with Michael Murray and Roger Montgomery. Originally from Edinburgh, Freya started learning the horn aged ten under the tutelage of Jacquie Johnstone. When she was fifteen she successfully auditioned for a place at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland's Junior Conservatoire, where she studied for three years with Sue Baxendale. During her time at the Junior Conservatoire Freya played in many different youth ensembles, including the Edinburgh Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, with whom she performed at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in 2012. Freya plays in several ensembles within Trinity Laban, including the Trinity Laban Symphony Orchestra; recent performances include Richard Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra at Cadogan Hall and a side by side concert with members of the Philharmonia. A keen chamber musician, Freya is a member of the Bellazona Brass Quintet, with whom she regularly performs in professional and educational engagements. She has performed with the GMT Brass Ensemble and numerous wind quintets, both within and outside of Trinity Laban. In August 2015 Freya was invited to play as Principal Horn with the Edinburgh Youth Orchestra Chamber Orchestra on their summer tour, which was conducted by Julian Lloyd Webber. Freya regularly performs, and has recorded with, the London City Orchestra; in September 2015 she successfully auditioned for the role of Principal horn for their 2015/2016 Season under their Professional Development Programme. Freya has also played in a variety of other orchestral ensembles since she moved to London, including the Oberon Orchestra, King's College London Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Novus, and as Guest Principal horn of King's Opera. During her studies at Trinity Laban Freya has worked with renowned visiting artists in masterclasses and concerts such as Frank Lloyd, Richard Bissill, Katy Woolley, Martin Schöpfer, and The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Wind Quintet. In the summer of 2016 she took part in the Amadeus Academy course, culminating in a performance at Exeter Cathedral with the renowned cellist Raphael Wallfisch.
