Fordante (Film Music Ensemble)

Created in 2008 by Musical Director and film composer, Phil Mountford, Fordante was formed to perform light classical and film music. The unique line up of the ensemble includes violin, viola, cello, oboe and piano which provides a wonderful and varied sound from only a handful of musicians. This blend of instruments combined with stunning bespoke musical arrangements provides a far grander sound than could be expected from a quintet and have led Fordante to being described as 'Like Andre Rieu with a smaller orchestra'. The popularity of the ensemble is in part due to their approach to performing lighter and more entertaining repertoire, engaging with the audience, to provide an inclusive concert experience. Fordante have performed in grand venues such as Birmingham Symphony Hall and Buxton Theatre but are equally at home in more intimate locations. The ensemble has won awards for Best New Music and has been four times supported by the Arts Council England as well as the Shropshire County Council. The ensemble have toured multiple times with many regional rural touring agencies. Having performed well over 100 concerts Fordante are also available for private events. Fordante released their first album 'The Arrival' receiving much critical acclaim with BBC Introducing calling it 'Simply beautiful'.
