Fiona was a pleasure to deal with. She advised me about the music and went above and beyond to ensure the music at our event was perfect. She worked well with the other musicians and took any stress out of the arrangements by her professionalism, friendliness, and genuine desire to make the music sound amazing. My introduction to Fiona Sweeney came about in a situation well known to many conductors: when a concerto soloist suddenly withdraws, leaving little time to find a replacement. On this occasion, it involved a prominent recording project with the Czech Philharmonic featuring Cécile Chaminade’s Concertino, with just two weeks’ notice. After reaching out to a few agencies, I was quickly inundated with suggestions. Fiona replied promptly and professionally, and her impressive playing profile, having collaborated with many of the UK’s leading orchestras, highlighted her capability to deliver an outstanding performance under pressure, even at extremely short notice. Fiona exhibited impressive versatility and adaptability, embracing the role with a positive attitude and good humour. Her technical ability, consistently assured and expressive tone, and devoted engagement with the concerto were brilliant. Fiona was calm and confident on the day, not afraid to raise points and to interact positively with the orchestra. I hope to work with Fiona again and I am certain she has a bright playing future ahead of her.
