Felix Wai Kwan Lo has recently graduated from his Masters in Violin Performance at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, studying with Lucy Gould. He began playing the violin at the age of six, and has been an active musician ever since. He was appointed as the chairman and second violin section leader of TWGHs Wong Fut Nam College String Orchestra during his studies there, studying violin with Eiko Hosaka. He then moved to England at the age of 17 and continued his studies at John Leggott College, where he studied violin with Rachel England, and was appointed to be the leader of the college’s symphony orchestra. During his time at university, he studied violin with Dr. Devorina Gamalova, and electroacoustic composition under the direction of Dr. Jonty Harrison, Dr. Scott Wilson, and Dr. James Carpenter. He was also appointed to lead both second violin sections in the university’s Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestras in his second and third year.
Felix performs regularly across the UK and Hong Kong. He was a member of the City of Birmingham Symphony Youth Orchestra in his years in Birmingham. He was then invited to join the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra, and Hong Kong Festival Orchestra. He has worked with conductors such as Jac van Steen, Alexander Vedernikov, Ilan Volkov, Andrew Litton, Michael Seal, Daniele Rosina, and James Blair in venue including the St. John Smith Square in London, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Birmingham Town Hall, Birmingham Elgar Concert Hall, Birmingham Barber Concert Hall, St David's Hall in Cardiff, Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall, and Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall.
In addition to orchestral performances, Felix also expresses a strong interest in chamber music. During his time in Birmingham, he played second violin at the FAHN String Quartet, which he co-founded with three other university students. They have performed in numerous venues across the UK. In 2012, they were asked to give the first public concert of the Elgar Concert Hall to celebrate the grand opening of the university’s Bramall Music Building. They have also premiered a new theatre work by Jack Blume, a University of Birmingham graduate, the ‘Blackbird of Boslem’ and have received high acclaim.
In his spare time, Felix is also a semi-professional photographer, specialises in portraiture, events, street and landscape photography.
