Fat Cat Brass. A modern brass band like you've never seen before!

Fat Cat Brass are a brass band like you've never experienced before. We play original arrangements of classic pop tunes from the last 5 decades. There's 4 horn players and 2 drummers....who perform on STILTS! The tunes will keep you singing and the rhythms will keep you dancing. Whether it's a Carnival, Festival, private party or bar, the Fat Cats will bring energy and joy into your space. We pride ourselves on being only a 4 horn set-up and love the challenge of taking a great tune and making it work in our own way. So, along with the two drummers, being a 6 piece band makes us quite unique in the brass band world. Fat Cat is small but mighty! Most of our gigs are totally unplugged and acoustic. However, we also often perform using a full p.a. set up and wireless, roaming mics. This is great for the larger indoor venues where everyone wants a piece of the action. Carnivals, Festivals, Parades - Fat Cat can parade through your streets or venue, with the drummers on stilts. We can also be a roaming band, stilts or ground based. Stage - Blistering Latin style arrangements with an Afro-Cuban percussion set up.

Customer questions

Do you have different line-up options?

Either 5 or 6 piece. 6 = Drums x2 (on stilts if required)/ x2 Trumpets/Trombone/Sousaphone. 5 = Drums x1 (on stilts if required)/ x2 Trumpets/Trombone/Sousaphone.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We will always try to be as flexible as possible. After all, we want your event to be as successful as possible. So, just let us know and we'll do what we can to accommodate.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, no problem. We have a great p.a. system and are happy to play your material in between sets, or for a charge we can DJ for you.

How much time do you need to set up?

For acoustic only events we only need to get our costumes and stilts on and we are ready to go. So, 15 mins. For events using the p.a. then usually around an hour.

Can you roam around while you perform?

Yes,definitely. We love it!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Yes, no problem.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

Yes, p.a. and lighting is all including in your quote.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Yes, no problem. As our line-up is quite different to a regular function band, the song request needs to be completely re written to suit our instrumentation. We love adding new songs to our repertoire, so it's no problem if we know far enough in advance. It would be at a fee of £50 per song to take into account writing and rehearsals.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

We are a pretty unique line-up. You not only get the great tunes that you might hear from a regular function band, but we have the facility to roam or be on stage. Acoustic or powered. There's a great energy about the band that's infectious. Plus, we have STILTS! We're want you want but.......different!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

There's too many to mention. More recently we were performing at Emmerdale Farm. Then we were at a working Windmill. Then, a great Jazz Club in Nottingham. Then, New Year's Eve at Revolucion de Cuba.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

We love the New Orleans, 'Second-Line' style. So, bands like the Hot 8 and Rebirth Brass band we love. The arrangements of Stevie Wonder, the power of the great 'riff' of any great rock band and the simplicity of a great pop chorus. If it's good, we love it!

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

The Royal Albert Hall.....amazing!

I booked Fat Cat Brass for my 50th. What a fantastic group! Mitch was in regular contact from the start. I told him what I wanted and they delivered. The band had my guests on their feet dancing, singing but most importantly smiling from the moment they entered. I had them walk in playing past the big windows at the venue as a surprise. My guests loved it. Mitch came over really early and had a look at the entrances in his normal clothes so not to give the game away. He even messaged me from their 'dressing room' (other bar area!) to say guests were still arriving so they would hold on for a bit before the surprise entrance. So professional and thoughtful. The band are really lovely smiley people. I had them acoustic and 'roaming' there was no PA system needed. They were jolly, engaging and their music was superb. In the second set the drummers rocked up on stilts wearing trousers with LEDs on! I had requested 'You'll Never Walk Alone' as the last piece of the set as we are mostly a group of diehard Liverpool supporters. They started slow as per normal, but then put a ska twist on it as Mitch was aware of my love of ska. It was amazing, everyone was bopping around and singing. I have had messages from everyone at the party saying how amazing the band were. People will be talking about the performance for a long time. Safe to say the entertainment made my 50th party special, unforgettable and fun. I'm so grateful to Mitch and the guys and girl. I love them!!
