Esther Knight (neé Galilee) is a creative and dedicated musician from York, England. She began piano and flute lessons as a child, gaining grade 8 in both instruments by the age of 15. She then took piano lessons with Nica Shirocorad and subsequently studied at ‘The Sage, Gateshead’ weekend school for music with David Murray. During her school years she enjoyed performing in various ensembles including the North Yorkshire Schools Symphony Orchestra (flute), Young Sinfonia (flute), Riverside Jazz (piano) and St. Aidan’s Chamber Choir (voice). 2011 saw her win the Harrogate festival piano class, perform as a finalist in the EptaUK piano competition in London, and achieve dipABRSM in both piano and flute. She then studied piano at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with Graeme McNaught and Isobel Anderson. At the RCS, Esther developed her solo piano skills as well as becoming an experienced accompanist, regularly accompanying singers in performances classes, exams and competitions and achieving high marks in her ensemble exams. Esther also writes poetry and in 2015 she collaborated with a composer to write a set of songs based on the Scottish islands. As a successful piano teacher and accompanist based in Glasgow, Esther is now earning a living in through sharing the beauty of music in inspiring teaching and communicative performing.
