Erlend Vestby

Norwegian cellist Erlend Vestby graduated from the Royal College of Music (RCM) in 2019 where he was an Anglo-Norse Award holder. He studied modern cello with Jakob Kullberg and baroque cello with Richard Tunnicliffe and works professionally on both instruments. Erlend is in high demand as a chamber musician performing with small ensembles and chamber orchestras such as the British Sinfonia, Brandenburg Sinfonia and Brandenburg Baroque Soloists, Orchestra Nova, Piccadilly Sinfonietta and Ensemble OrQuesta. As a soloist, he enjoys giving solo recitals where the music of Bach is usually present. He has performed in venues such as St John’s Smith Square, V&A Museum, the Classic FM Christmas Concert 2022, and recently at the Dart Music Festival in Darthmouth where he will reappear in May 2024. Erlend is a Southbank Sinfonia alumnus (2020-2022), on the extras list for the Norwegian Radio and Stavanger Symphony Orchestras, and he enjoyed the experience scheme of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment last year. Erlend’s versatile musicality makes him not only a performer, but also a composer, teacher, and a keen researcher on early 18th and early 20th century performance practices where the music of Bach and Elgar stand central. He presents his research in the form of lecture recitals which he has held at for instance the RCM Music & Ideas series and at the London Festival of Baroque Music 2022. He is looking forward to talk and play for the London Mozart Players Friends in September.
