About Emily

London based Oboe and Cor Anglais player, First Class Hons graduate of the Royal Academy of Music
Oboist
London

Emily is currently a first year MA student at the Royal Academy of Music in London, having received a First Class BMus Hons degree there in the Summer 2020. She is studying with Chris Cowie and Ian Hardwick for Oboe and Sue Bohling for Cor Anglais. In the academic year 2018-19, she spent a year in Germany at the Musikhochschule Lübeck with Professor Diethelm Jonas as part of the Erasmus programme. Whilst still at school, Emily played in the National Youth Orchestra for two years. Highlights for Emily whilst in the NYO included playing under such conductors as Sir Mark Elder, John Wilson and Edward Gardner in venues all over the country, including in the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms series, and even in Konzerthaus Berlin. Now living in London, Emily regularly plays with ensembles at the Academy, including the Symphony Orchestra with conductors such as Oliver Knussen, Ed Gardner and Ludovic Morlot, Chamber Orchestra with Peter Whelan, Symphonic Wind Ensemble and in the orchestra for the opera productions. She also regularly freelances with orchestras both in London and in her home county of Gloucestershire. Recent engagements have included performances with the Regency Sinfonia and the English Arts Chorale Orchestra, as well as a sit-in with the Philharmonia Orchestra. Emily has also been fortunate to regularly perform in masterclasses with oboists such as Jonathan Kelly, Kai Frömbgen and Diethelm Jonas. Emily is very much looking forward to her upcoming performance of a new work written especially for her by Joby Talbot, as part of the Royal Academy of Music’s 200 Pieces project in celebration of their Bicentenary in 2022. In addition to her performing career, Emily is also passionate about music education and is always keen to expand her teaching portfolio. Aside from her one to one teaching of both oboe and piano, Emily works for the National Children’s Orchestra and is currently supporting the delivery of their online programme. She regularly participates in workshops with the Open Academy, has coached chamber music ensembles on an English Camerata summer course and has recently completed her LRAM Teaching Diploma.
