Emily Stephens

Since graduating from her MA at the Royal Academy of Music, Emily has built a busy career as a freelance oboist. She performs regularly with many professional orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Mozart Players and Philharmonia Orchestra and is currently on trial with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. Emily loves travelling and has particularly enjoyed touring with orchestras such as the LPO and RPO across Europe and even to the Abu Dhabi! She also enjoys playing new music and recently performed the world premiere of a new work for solo oboe by Joby Talbot and with the London Sinfonietta. Emily is also an enthusiastic chamber musician, performing regularly across the UK with Chiltern Winds, her wind quintet that she formed whilst studying and also as part of an ensemble for the Waterperry Opera Festival. Emily has been teaching at Queen Elizabeth's School in North London since September 2021 and is passionate about passing on all that she has learnt through her own studies to her students. Emily has been fortunate to study with a number of inspirational teachers such as Celia Nicklin, Chris Cowie and Jonathan Kelly. She also spent a year studying in Germany at the Musikhochschule Lübeck with Professor Diethelm Jonas. Emily is passionate about bringing live music to audiences who would not otherwise experience it and works in many education settings other than her one-to-one teaching. She works for the National Children’s Orchestra, regularly runs workshops in schools with Chiltern Winds, works as a tutor for the British Double Reed Society and plays with Street Orchestra Live.
