Hi! My name is Emily Ashberry. I am an acoustic guitarist and singer-songwriter based in the East Midlands. I've been performing music since I was tiny, and as an adult I've realised that the reason I love music is storytelling. I love using music to tell other people's stories, and would love to help you work out how to tell your story, and make music a part of your event. As well as having a large and eclectic repertoire, perfect for chilled weddings and parties, I also love traditional folk music, and have built up a small curated repertoire of traditional English, Irish, Scottish, and American tunes. If you’re planning on something a little bit different for a wedding or event and want to chat all things folk, get in touch! I love researching and digging into the archives, and learning any songs that are important to you and your families. Think hand-fasting, jumping over brooms, pagan weddings in the woods! All my packages include at least 3 bespoke song choices, and a free consultation to chat about the music you love and building a setlist that suits you.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

My voice gets a lot of compliments, and I try to play to its strengths! I'm best suited to ballads and chilled lounge vibes, as well as your favourite trad folk songs.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Lots of venues around the East Midlands, including grassroots music venues in Nottingham, Lincoln and Derby. I've also performed at Gate to Southwell Festival twice and will be playing Bearded Theory 2026.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

I really love folk and country music, so my big influences are artists like Kate Rusby, Dolly Parton, and The Indigo Girls, especially in my original songs. However, I have a wide range of acoustic covers from all sorts of genres and artists!

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I supported one of my all time favourite folk artists Seth Lakeman at a gig in Derby, as part of his UK tour. This was such a special gig for me, getting to open for a musician I've admired since I first fell in love with folk music.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

No problem! Just let me know in advance. If the time I'm booked for increases significantly then there may be an additional charge but this can be discussed together.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Definitely! Within the time frame I am booked for this is free - you can send me a playlist of your choosing or some song requests and I'll make sure they're played.

How much time do you need to set up?

This depends on the event style or feel; if I'm playing acoustically, then 10-20 minutes to get a feel for how I sound in the space and set up an area for myself. If playing amplified I'll arrive an hour before set up and to do a sound check to make sure everything sounds good.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Definitely! The event can be tailored to you and your tastes, and you can choose any from my set list that you think are suitable. I'll advise on the order, but the song choices are entirely up to you. All bookings include a free consultation to discuss your music preferences and wedding packages include at least 3 bespoke song choices.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes, I can bring just my instrument to play acoustically, or if playing amplified I'll bring my guitar, mic and stand and a PA system.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Absolutely! Happy to learn any requests in advance. All wedding packages include 3 bespoke song choices, and if you'd like to chat about adding trad music to your event please get in touch!
