Elzbieta is 20 years old and comes from Blackburn, Lancashire. She first began playing the cornet and the piano at the age of 6 and won prizes for both instruments in the Blackburn Music Festival, including a prize for ‘the most promising musician’. At the age of 8, she joined Chetham’s School of Music where she began studying the piano with Marta Karbownicka and the trumpet with Tracey Redfern, the principal trumpet of the Manchester Camerata. While at Chetham's, she also studied the trumpet with David Chatterton and Murray Grieg. Elżbieta was one of five brass to reach the category finals in the 2012 BBC Young Musician competition. As well as being a keen soloist, Elżbieta has played with many ensembles both at Oxford and at Chetham’s, including: brass quartets, quintets, dectets, Chetham’s Brass Band, Dot's Funk Odyssey (an Oxford funk band), Chetham’s Wind Band, the Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra, and the Oxford University Orchestra. She has also sung various choirs, including the Chetham’s Chamber Choir and the choir of Lady Margaret Hall, and in 2012, she took part in the Gabrieli Young Singers’ Scheme where she collaborated with the Gabrieli Consort and Players and the Wrocław Philharmonic Choir to make a recording of Britten’s War Requiem. Elżbieta has performed at many various venues throughout her time as a trumpet player, including the Royal Northern College of Music, the Bridgewater Hall, The Royal Festival Hall, the Sheldonian Theatre, and Cadogan Hall, and has had the privilege of performing under the batons of many famous conductors including Paul Mann, Paul McCreesh, and Sir Mark Elder. She has also had the opportunity of taking part in masterclasses with world-famous trumpet players including Allen Vizzutti, James Watson and Tine Thing Helseth. She is currently studying for a degree in German at Oxford University, and is having trumpet lessons at the Royal Academy of London with Alistair Mackie.
