While studying both classical and jazz trombone at Chetham’s School of Music, Elliot became a member of the National Youth Orchestra in 2010, becoming principal trombone in 2012. During this time, in addition to televised BBC Proms, Elliot played at Buckingham Palace Gardens for the Queen’s Coronation Festival Gala in August 2013. Having been awarded a scholarship, Elliot began studying at the Royal Academy of Music in September 2013, where he studied trombone with some of the leading trombone players, including Matthew Gee, Mark Templeton, Dudley Bright and Ian Bousfield, and jazz trombone with Gordon Campbell and Mark Bassey , as well as bass trumpet and euphonium . He has also been involved in many Academy collaborative projects, including a performance of Stockhausen’s Hymnen with London Sinfonietta, as well as large-scale collaborations with the University of Carolina & Kings College London on the sackbut, and with the Juilliard School of Music, recording an album of Renaissance brass music. Outside of Academy events, Elliot enjoys a busy and varied freelance career as well as regular performances with ensembles such as London Musical Theatre Orchestra, Orion Orchestra and National Youth Jazz Orchestra. In April 2017, he played with the Britten Pears Orchestra under the direction of Marin Alsop.
