Edinburgh-born flautist Elizabeth Wells graduated with a First Class Honours degree from the Reid School of Music at the University of Edinburgh in 2018. She is currently studying for her Professional Graduate Diploma in Education for Secondary Music Education at Moray House. A keen instrumentalist she began her musical studies at the age of 6, learning piano with Meiwen Tannock, but began playing the flute when she was 9. She took up lessons at her school, George Heriot’s, with teacher Gwen Kelso and since coming to university, has been studying with Andrea Kuypers at Napier University. She plays with the Edinburgh University Music Society Symphony Orchestra as principal piccolo player and has also played with the Society’s Sinfonia as principal flautist. In addition to piccolo and flute she also plays bass flute in the Glasgow-based flute choir, Flutes Unlimited. As an aspiring music teacher Elizabeth taught a music class twice a week in a local nursery for 4 years and has been teaching piano and flute privately since 2014. She has worked with children from around the City of Edinburgh and in The Gambia in community music workshops run by Dee Isaacs and the University of Edinburgh's Music in the Community course. Alongside performing and teaching, she is also interested in composition, particularly choral music. She has had work performed and requested by the Edinburgh-based choir, Voces Inauditae.
