Yiwen Su was born in China, hailed as ‘Singapore Nightingale’ by The Straits Times after she moved to Singapore for study. She obtained BMus (Hons) programme at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore, a degree in collaboration with the Royal College of Music, London with First Class Honours, and is currently pursuing Masters of Performance in Royal College of Music. Her versatility as a performer allows her to excel in the genres of opera, oratorio, art song and folk song. She has performed several operatic roles, which include Celidora in L’oca del Cairo by Mozart, Geraldine in Samuel Barber’s opera A Hand of Bridge, Bastienne in Bastien und Bastienne by Mozart, Cousin in Madama Butterfly by Puccini and Second Lady in Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Su’s concert credits include performing Schöenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire with Singapore Chamber Ensemble, singing Johann Strauss II’s Voice of Spring with The Philharmonic Orchestra Singapore in New Year’s Eve Gala Concert, making a debut with NAFA Symphony Orchestra in Mozart’s Requiem as soprano solo. Moreover, she was invited to sing solo in Nielsen’s Symphony No. 3 with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Lan Shui in 2015. Su was also invited to by Miss Angelika from VIETS Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Singapore to perform for the Germany Bite-sized Exhibition in 2012. The following year, She guest sang at SPH LianHe Zaobao 90th Anniversary Gala Dinner for president of the Republic of Singapore, Dr. Tony Tan. Besides performing, she has received several accolades in competition. These include the First prize in the 9th ZhongSin International Music Competition (Bel Canto Open Category) in 2015, the First prize in Singapore Arts Singing Competition 2014 and Grand Prize in the 5th Bangkok Opera International Singing Competition 2013. Su is a RCM Scholar supported by an Alice Templeton Award.
