Edward Mead

Edward Mead is a Welsh cellist and composer based in Oxfordshire. He regularly performs as principal cellist and chamber musician with Sinfonia Cymru, including recently at their BBC Proms debut. He has also been guest principal with the New London Orchestra, Outcry Ensemble, and guest principal 2nd cellist of Britten Sinfonia (Aldeburgh Festival). He has performed as a recitalist and chamber musician at Southbank Centre, Cambridge Summer Music, Highgate International Chamber Music (Rachel Podger and Friends) and Christ Church Cathedral Oxford (Instruments of Time and Truth Early Career Artist Showcase), Handel Hendrix House, and the Foundling Museum. He also plays with ensembles including the Philharmonia Orchestra, Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra and The English Concert. Also a composer, Eddie's music has been published by Musica Ferrum, recorded by Sussane Kessel (Beethoven Haus Bonn), Michael Atkinson (BBC Radio 3 Proms Website) Jackie Shave (Red Note Ensemble Digital Concert), and his arrangements have been performed by Sinfonia Cymru. Eddie began his education at a Welsh language school before going on to study at Yehudi Menuhin School, Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. His mentors have included Adrian Brendel, Richard Lester, and Jonathan Manson. Eddie plays on a modern cello made by Harry Strong and a baroque cello made, and generously loaned, by Clive Morris.
