The Tony Mcauley and Barry Mason composition “Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes” provided the first breakthrough for session singer Tony Burrows and Edison Lighthouse in 1970, selling 4.5 million copies worldwide. Whilst Tony Burrows success continued with White Plains, Brotherhood of Man and First Class, his original backing group toured briefly under the name Edison. Tony Mcauley meanwhile retained the name “Edison Lighthouse” and recorded “It’s Up To You Petula”, which provided a second hit in 1971 and this line-up maintained the success with live performances around the world, building a reputation for providing top class entertainment. Since the early seventies the band has featured Brian Huggins as lead singer and front man, with Peter Butt on bass guitar and vocals, joined by session pro Mark Forton on drums and vocals, lead guitarist Rick Piggott and keyboardist Matthew Bason complete the line-up. The band performs at most of the UK’s prestigious venues and has worked for Cunard Cruises on many occasions, keeping a full diary for over fifty years. 2022 has seen a huge resurgence in popularity following “Love Grows” being adopted by the TikTok generation as a soundtrack for video streams. A young lady in Australia started the trend with her first video and it sparked an incredible 1.3 million videos to be made worldwide including by celebrities the likes of Drew Barrymore. The combined viewing of these videos totals in excess of 4.5 billion streams, taking “Love Grows” back into the Spotify and iTunes charts. In February 2022, due to the enduring love of the song and band and this massive response the Band has released a new single on the Island Records label called “Love Grows in Rosemarys Disco (Club remix version) which in a very short time frame has wracked up 500,000 downloads on Spotify, over 500,000 views on online and is tearing it up on the Club circuits in the UK and overseas. The tour line-up that still exists today released a re-record on the original and that alone has delivered in excess of 9 million downloads for us, such is the love for this song and the band. The fact that Edison Lighthouse today is still in such huge demand is a testament to the love people have for the band, the songs and the fact that, as live performers we are as strong as ever, with a big sound, a lively show, powerful harmonies and top-class musicianship.
