About Dylan Ross Jazz Collective

Award winning jazz singer fronting some of the finest musicians in the UK. 300+ weddings, events and concerts since 2020.
Jazz band
Dorset
Public liability insurance of £10 million

The Dylan Ross Collective is a Jazz function band comprised of some of the best professional musicians across London the South Coast. Reviving the antiquity of live performance and celebrating the golden age of jazz, performing unique renditions of beloved tunes, old and new. Exploring the vast anthology of jazz music, from roaring blues to atmospheric bossa nova all flourished with improvisation and style. Dylan is a classically trained contemporary jazz singer. As an actor, he debuted in new musical works and performed at prestigious venues such as the Actors Church Covent Garden and the Royal Albert Hall. He subsequently appeared as Frankie Valli in the Jersey Boys International Tour (2021). Influenced by the likes of Sinatra and Fred Astaire, with vocal styling comparable to Harry Connick Jr. and young Tony Bennett, he fronts a dedicated and prolific collective of world-class musicians. Together, the Dylan Ross Jazz Collective have performed nearly all over the world and are coming off the back of a successful run of the UK Jazz festivals. Last year the Chair of Swanage Jazz Festival wrote: "Male jazz singers are in a minority, so it’s always interesting to hear one, especially one who has the tone and phrasing of some of the very best from the past. If you like Sinatra, Tony Bennett and even Michael Buble, you can’t help but loving Dylan Ross who was pitch perfect all night. The collective included Simon Allen on sax who did an outstanding solo performance of ‘All The Things You Are’, Gareth Fowler on guitar, Brian Postlethwaite on piano, Joe Limburn on bass and Alex Cardall on drums. They gelled well and provided well-crafted backing on classic standards like ‘A Foggy Day’ and ‘Stella By Starlight’. Ross sang the tricky ‘My Foolish Heart’ with a gorgeous tenderness. It's interesting listening to a very familiar Jazz repertoire, but with the emphasis on words. Dylan Ross sang them with precision and feeling. The Jazz Collective got a rousing reception from a near capacity crowd." ~ Paul Kelly, Chair of Swanage Jazz Festival, 2023

Dylan Ross Jazz Collective performed for us in the Level8Skybar at Hilton Bournemouth. They were excellent and our clients were delighted. Dylan was pitch perfect all night and sang some great Sinatra tunes. Brilliant musicians, all in all a very suave and professional group. We'll definitely be having them back regularly.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

"Male jazz singers are in a minority, so it’s always interesting to hear one, especially one who has the tone and phrasing of some of the very best from the past. If you like Sinatra, Tony Bennett and even Michael Bublé, you can’t help but loving Dylan Ross who was pitch perfect all night." ~ Paul K, Chair of Swanage Jazz Festival 2023

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Dylan has performed featuring roles in Westend and fringe venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, The Actors Church and The Union Theatre. Our musicians have performed and tour with high profile artist such as Jamie Cullum, Liane Harris, Incognito and many more..

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Our vision is one of rendition, attributed to the great jazz practitioners such as Oscar Peterson, John Coltrane, Chet Baker, Mel Tormé and, of course, revitalising the archetype of a swinging male lead as conceived by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet, Bobby Darin.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

We have performed at the Swanage Jazz Festival 2023 and 2024, a leading UK Jazz festival, alongside some high profile British Jazz legends such a Claire Martin OBE and Liane Harris.

Will the singer be the same as who I see in the videos?

Yes, Dylan is the only lead singer in the band. As a band we operate functionally as a large pool of musicians from London and the South, because of this many of musicians differ depending on where our gig takes place.

Do you have different line-up options?

Yes, we can appear as anything from an intimate duo (vocal and piano) to a swinging sextet (vocal, 2 horns, piano, bass, drums). We often fulfil the request for a guitarist to replace the pianist in our line ups. For our larger performance (concerts, weddings, etc.) we often provide a professional Sound Engineer for an additional fee of £150.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

There are, of course, sometimes some discrepancies which can easily be resolved at not extra cost with fair notice. However, larger change such as dates and line-ups are harder to accommodate.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Our equipment has the capacity to play music from a device and we are, of course, happy to play similar music during our set up and intervals to maintain the atmosphere. However, we do not include a DJ service in our line-ups. We are happy to refer our clients to DJs that are well known to us and who can accompany us for the event for an additional fee.

How much time do you need to set up?

Depending on the event, we usually need up to 1 hour to set up and sound check. As soon as our PA is set up we usually provide a free playlist service to help build the atmosphere and get your guests ready for our live performance.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Absolutely. Although our set lists are always bespoke and curated with careful and expert consideration, we are very happy to fulfil requests by our clients.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

We always assume that we will provide all of our equipment. However, we ourselves do not provide lighting and/or staging. We provide a full 1000w PA and all the necessary sound tech.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Even if a particular popular song isn't found in our song list, it's very likely that we can performing it for our clients with fair notice. We offer 3 bespoke song requests for weddings only.
