About Duncan

Clarinettist and University of Cambridge Graduate.
Clarinettist
London

Born in Glasgow, Duncan has consistently been involved with music from a young age, first as pianist, but now primarily as a clarinettist. He read Music at Magdalene College, University of Cambridge, where he was awarded the Dorothy Kolbert Prize for excellence in music and where he also held a Lady Lincoln award for performance. He studied clarinet with Joy Farrall at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama during his undergraduate degree, and has also spent time learning with Mark Van de Weil (professor at the Royal Academy of Music). Prior to his time at Cambridge, Duncan was a pupil of Alison Waller at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Junior Department where he held a Wolfson Scholarship and was principal clarinet of the symphony orchestra in his final year. He is currently working as a Post-Graduate Assistant Teacher of Music at Brighton College in East Sussex, and will take up the position of acting Head of Lower School Music at King’s College School Wimbledon in September. Duncan continues to seek both freelance and part-time opportunities in the arts, and is actively looking for further gainful employment from January 2023. Duncan is looking to expand and build a unique and eclectic portfolio career within music and education. He is particularly interested in contemporary music, and enjoys curating projects that move away from typical concert practice. He is keen to utilise the writing skills he developed during his time at university, and is seeking opportunities to write, discuss and think about music in intellectually engaging ways. Duncan is always looking for new and exciting projects to work on - be that playing, writing, or teaching - so please do not hesitate to get in touch.
