Dimbleby, Nicholls, Yapp Trio

Rob, Sam and Toby first met in 2021 while studying jazz at Trinity Laban and The Royal Academy of music, bonding over a shared love of the swinging piano trios of the past including Oscar Peterson, Wynton Kelly, and Benny Green. The group perform regularly at bars, hotels and jazz clubs across London, recent performances including Alfie's in Soho, The Roses of Elagabalus, and The Albany. With all 3 members being successful musicians in their own right, they each bring their own set of unique influences and styles to the table, combining to create something joyful, spontaneous, and most of all, swinging! Here's a bit about each of the 3 members: Sam Nicholls is a Drummer and Percussionist hailing from the Lake District, living and working in London. Sam performs regularly in the UK and across Europe with renowned Jazz artists including Byron Wallen, Tom Challenger, Hans Koller and Steve Berry. He has recently performed in ‘Merry Wives of Windsor’ at Shakespeares Globe. Sam runs the monthly ‘Jazz Saturdays’ residency at the Albany (Deptford). Toby Yapp is a London-based jazz bassist known for his solid, dependable sound and dynamic musicianship. A busy sideman, he performs and tours regularly across the UK and internationally, bringing a strong rhythmic foundation to every project. In London, he has appeared at leading venues including Ronnie Scott’s (with Emma Rawicz), the Jazz Café (opening for Aaron Parks), and the Vortex. Recent performances in the Netherlands have included appearances at BIMHUIS and TivoliVredenburg. Toby plays in a range of ensembles spanning diverse styles, and has featured on albums with the award-winning group KRSIX, guitarist Joe Herbert, and the Emile Hinton Trio. He has also recorded and performed with British jazz luminaries Jean Toussaint, Mark Lockheart, and Laura Jurd. Jazz pianist and multi-instrumentalist Robert Dimbleby has been making a name for himself with his original blend of jazz, funk and soul music from a young age. Classically trained up to DipABRSM level, his videos online have amassed millions of views and his skills as a pianist have seen him perform across Europe, Australia, and at renowned venues and festivals in the UK such as Ronnie Scott’s, Abbey Road Studios and many more, with a huge variety of bands and projects including most recently, mercury prize nominee Sam Lee. In addition to being a regular performer, Robert is an avid songwriter and has released over 6 albums worth of original music in which he plays all instruments. His music has been played on BBC radios across the country and he has been described as an "excellent songwriter" by Dean Jackson on BBC introducing.
