I began my professional career as a solo cornet and trumpet player in the Band of the Scots Guards in London in the 70s. As well as ceremonial performances in London and abroad, I also had the wonderful experiences of concert performances at major venues, including the Royal Albert Hal and Festival Hall both with concert bands and orchestras-notably Tchaikovsky Nights with the LSO and RPO. My interest in teaching led me to a post with the Inner London Education Authority as a Brass Peripatetic instructor. This also opened the door to more freelance opportunities as a brass player outside of the Guards bands. In the 80s I had the good fortune to play with the Resident orchestras at both Hammersmith Palais and The Lyceum in the Strand up until their change of status, which is when I formed my own ensembles and began working in theatres and cabaret. My first show was 'Mame' at Wimbledon Theatre (1979) followed by the tour of 'The Dancing Years' to Jersey (1982) and a residency at Leighton Buzzard. My main interest was in forming my own Function band to compliment freelancing playing with the Tommy Hawkins Showband, Ray McVay, Andy Ross and Chico Arnez. My career continues as a versatile trumpeter for all occasions and in any genre.

Customer questions

Do you have different line-up options?

Our standard line-up is two trumpets, french horn, trombone and tuba. We add drums for events that require more of an upbeat programme.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

As we are an acoustic group we can provide recorded background music if the venue has a PA system. Alternatively, I can bring a PA system for an additional £100.

How much time do you need to set up?

It usually takes us between 30 to 40 minutes to set up.

Can you roam around while you perform?

At present we do not offer this service.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

I am happy to chat with you about the musical items that will be best suited to making your event a complete success.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

We bring our own music stands and lighting which is included in the price.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If a musical item isn't included in our list there may still be a chance we already know it. If there is a special piece that you'd like us to learn we are happy to do this for you. There is a fee of £30 for this service to take into account rehearsal times etc. ”
