Debbi started piano at the age of 2, and has always had a passion for music. She took GCSE music at Davison CE High School for Girls in Worthing where she was given the Davison Award for Music Achievement. She was awarded the highest music scholarship to study at Kent College Canterbury, singing in the award-winning chamber choir Sedecim, and where she performed as first clarinet soloist in Krommer’s Double Clarinet Concerto with the college orchestra. She was presented with the Lander Prize for Keyboard Studies at the end of her time at the college.
Her achievements to date include Grade 8 in piano, clarinet and voice, Grade 6 in music theory, and she is self-teaching her way towards Grade 5 flute. She has gained a Bmus (Hons) in Music Performance at Kingston University, majoring in piano accompaniment, and is now studying a Masters in piano accompaniment and performance at the London College of Music.
She has considerable experience in accompanying, working with other students at both universities and a church choir in New Malden, among other outside opportunities in London. She was the accompanist for Kingston University Twist Choir, a mixed-ability choir spanning a wide range of genres, for two years which included a tour to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
A member of the Royal Choral Society, Debbi regularly performs in the Royal Albert Hall. She also sang in the Kingston University Chamber Choir (including an Italian tour), Kingston Choral Society, and performed with the Riverside Opera, Kingston, as a chorus member in Gounod's Romeo and Juliet in Kingston's Rose Theatre. In addition, Debbi had a part of a chorister in the critically acclaimed film "The Theory of Everything" based on the life of Stephen Hawking.
She is a clarinettist in LCM's Camarata orchestra, and is the deputy clarinettist for Kingston Philharmonia. Recently, she has been appointed Musical Director of Hinchley Manor Operatic Society's production of Pirates of Penzance. She is a piano, clarinet and theory teacher with Key Lessons (www.keylessons.co.uk).
At LCM, Debbi is regularly called upon to accompany other students in their recitals and concerts. Most recently, this included a concert of varied musical styles in the historic setting of the 12th century St Mary's Church, Perivale. She often performs chamber music with Maggie Snow (www.maggie-snow.com). Maggie is a violinist and masters student at LCM, and together they are currently working on Elgar's Violin Sonata.
As a musician she is regularly hired to play at events and functions both within the university and outside, particularly in the London area.
