To date, he has performed in semi-professional productions of Grease, Our House, Annie, Hairspray and three unpublished musicals at the YMCA theatre in Cardiff. In addition to drum kit performance, he undertakes percussion-based work with Brass Bands and Wind Orchestras, having been trained in this style throughout his school and college years. To date, some of David's performance venue highlights include Tramshed and Portland House in the South Wales area, as well as Symphony Hall in Birmingham and Royal Albert Hall, London. Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Taking the music off the page and making it solid but exciting. This goes for all styles I'd say.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Tramshed, Cardiff Portland House, Cardiff Cardiff University Cardiff Museum Royal Albert Hall, London Symphony Hall, Birmingham

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Anyone and everyone! I listen to such a wide range of music and haven't just been influenced by other drummers. The musicality of each artist makes an impression on me and in turn I incorporate this into my playing. Just regarding drummers, right now (always subject to change) I'm listening to Questlove, Moses Boyd and Larnell Lewis.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

A near full Tramshed packed with students up and dancing all night is certainly one to remember. The televised stages of Band Cymru 2018 with Cardiff University Big Band was pretty high stakes, and without question, playing at the Royal Albert Hall is always going to be high profile and memorable.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

As long as the major details like the venue or day of the event are the same, myself and the band members can be as flexible as you like.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

For Rock the Mike bookings, of course! We are used to doing this and can curate an iPod/DJ service just for you to play before and between sets.

How much time do you need to set up?

A minimum of 1 hour 30 minutes for Rock the Mike. For just me and my drums (excluding microphones), I can be set up and ready to go in around 15-20 minutes if needed.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Of course! With any of the available styles, feel free to curate your own set list to suit the event or occasion.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes. For myself, I bring my drum kit, a rug to put it on and microphones if needed. For Rock the Mike or Jazz sets, all required equipment for the band is provided also.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Yes! If you have a favourite tune or a specific first dance song in mind for your wedding, we can learn this to make your day extra special. If you have a favourite jazz standard, we can arrange to play this at your event too. I'm quick at learning pieces by sight reading or by ear so I can always learn a set or specific song under a time pressure.

Such a great band! I had heard Rock the Mike play at a couple of MedSoc balls before so I hired them for the freshers ball this year. They are very easy to communicate with via FaceBook which made booking them for the event super easy and stress free. On the night they were all set up on time and performed brilliantly. They really got what kind of music the crowd wanted and everyone was dancing. 10/10
