About David Simon

The perfect musician for your big day - David has played over 200 weddings and events and always leaves a great impression!
Singer
London

I am a professional musician, songwriter/producer and multi-instrumentalist based in and around London. I have been playing piano for thirty years and singing for twenty, and I have a wide appreciation of music in every form. I love playing at weddings and events and always do my best to give the client the best music experience possible for their booking needs, including learning requests and being flexible on the day. I pride myself in being polite and professional and aim to plan out details with the client in advance. Music has been a passion for me from an early age. Having taken up piano as a child, I began performing at events from around age 15, and soon became a regular performer in my home town. I like to think my love of music and performing comes across whenever I sit at the piano and start playing and singing. After gaining a degree in Popular Music Studies from Goldsmiths College in London, I currently work as a songwriter, performer, vocal arranger and session musician. I also play guitar, bass and drums. I also work as an Artist In Residence Music Specialist in secondary education, working with young musicians on Music Technology, rock band workshops, choirs and songwriting. I have gained vast performing experience, both as a soloist and within various groups and ensembles. My original music has gained incredibly positive reviews from critics, who have widely praised my "uniquely pure vocal tone and ability to work in different styles". In the past I have held residencies at several restaurants, including celebrity chef Michael Caines' Old Brewery Tavern in Canterbury, live music hotspot Brasserie Toulouse Lautrec in London, and the multi award-winning Boatyard restaurant in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. Other performance highlights include performing at Royal Festival Hall and the BT Tower. I am a signed and published songwriter, working primarily on Kpop and Jpop, and I've had releases with various groups and artists in several countries, including top 10 songs and albums in Korea, Japan, Thailand and Belgium. Over a number of years, I have built a repertoire of swing, jazz, soul and pop classics, as well as more modern material. I also enjoy putting a few musical twists on some of my more unexpected song choices! I have played at a large number of weddings and events, expanding my repertoire with almost every booking, and I have provided music for meals, drinks and receptions, as well as during ceremonies and for first dances. I have always put my heart and soul into my music work, aiming to deliver a great service and a memorable performance for all my clients.

David was AMAZING. Don't hesitate to book him, or someone else will! David played piano and sang at our wedding. He has a fantastic voice and really helped make our special occasion just that bit more special. He was prompt, ahead of time and communicative throughout the whole process.

We've been so impressed... we hired David for my Dad's 70th, where we had a private dinner party at our home. We had an unusual request though - we thought it would be great to throw in a few Chas & Dave songs, and David was happy to learn some. On the night, he was absolutely sensational, he made the evening with perfect covers, full of variety, and sounding great. We always had complete confidence in him throughout the process, and it was obvious that he is a great musician - highly recommended.

David played background music at the drinks party I had for my 40th birthday. He was amazing - really understood the mood and played great material. I'm French, as are several of my friends, and he even made the effort to learn 2 or 3 songs in French (which I found out he speaks really well too!) and was super professional and polite - so many of my friends commented on how good he was and how nice he was when they spoke to him. I definitely recommend booking David!

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

I try to be professional, punctual and polite at all times. I get many positive comments about my musicality and vocal, as well as the variety of songs in my sets. I regularly get re-booked by guests at weddings for their own future events.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Some of the more recognised venues I have performed at: - Royal Festival Hall, London - The Jazz Cafe, London - The BT Tower, London - Bush Hall, London - STV Television Studio, Glasgow - The Lansdowne Club, Mayfair, London - Gilwell Park, Waltham Abbey - Hall Place, Bexley - Tudor Barn, Eltham - Home House, London - The Regal, Oxford - The Boatyard, Essex

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

As a songwriter, I take influence from all forms of popular music, but some of my favourite artists are: - Stevie Wonder - Elton John - Prince - Bruno Mars - Aretha Franklin - Robbie Williams - Many pop musicians in general - I try to listen to the song underneath the artist!

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

- Several live radio sessions, including BBC radio - Cambridge Rock Festival - The Jazz Cafe in London - Royal Festival Hall (with Tommy Blaize, singer for Strictly Come Dancing) - The Albany Theatre in London (concert in recognition of the work of Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones, who attended the concert)

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I am happy to be flexible where possible, and if the date has been booked with me I will aim to accommodate any changes you may make. If general timings change but I would still be required for the same amount of time, this would generally be fine, however if timings mean you'd like me to play for longer/shorter, the price may need to be altered.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

I am more than happy put together a playlist of songs that will run whenever I take breaks in my set, however I am unable to provide a speaker system for DJs as my system is specifically for a more acoustic-based setup.

How much time do you need to set up?

As a soloist, I can generally set up quite quickly; almost always within 25-30 mins. As long as I have a socket near my set up point, I can take care of the rest! I always try and set up discreetly and try to plan in advance with any client to cause minimal disruption.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

In general, clients are happy for me to judge the mood and trust my experience in ensuring the music is best matched to the ambience of your event. However, I'm always happy to discuss set lists beforehand and try and tailor the performance to your requirements.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes, everything I need will be provided and included in your quote! This includes instruments, speaker system, microphone and anything else.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Yes, I am happy to learn a limited number of requests (this depends on the event, and whether the songs are within the capabilities of a live performance (e.g. not techno music for a piano set!). All requests must be agreed prior to the event to allow time to learn and perfect new material for the performance.
