David Bullock

I am a guitarist, bassist and clarinettist based in the Leeds, UK. I first picked up the guitar in primary school, and did not revisit the instrument until I was invited to play for the City Jazz Orchestra and Singers a number of years later. As a part of this band, I gigged around the country, as well as four times at the band’s regular slot at the Cork Jazz Festival, Ireland. I studied Music at Durham University, and while there became heavily involved in the University’s Jazz scene. I played guitar and bass for a number of groups including Durham University Big Band, The Funkhaus Collective and The Quays as well as a number of the Jazz Society’s After Hours projects. Highlights from my time at Durham include playing at Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho, University Gospel Choir of the Year at Trinity Baptist Church in Croydon (placing second), the National Student Drama Festival in Leicester as well as a large number of busy student events and balls. After graduating, I continued to play with some of these groups alongside a job at the University. In 2020 I started taking private lessons with Nick Campbell (Charlie Puth, Meghan Trainor, Vulfpeck). This September I started the MA programme at Leeds Conservatoire, studying with Sam Vicary (The Cinematic Orchestra, Kandace Springs). In my short time at Leeds I have successfully auditioned for the Leeds Conservatoire SU Big Band and joined a jazz fusion quintet as well as working across a number of original writing projects.
