Dario Basta is a passionate pianist and keyboard player, particularly interested in (well..let's say obsessed by) jazz and funky music, even if his music experience includes also pop, rock and blues. He first approached jazz with his music school teacher, a jazz pianist/vibraphonist, from whom he took lessons for 5 years. In 1999 he attended the Umbria Jazz Clinics, studying with teachers from Berkley School of Boston. From 2006 to 2008 he played in the “Musicateneo” Big Band of the University of Salerno, taking part to the Copenaghen Jazz Festival in 2007. In 2010 he attended the Bachelor Degree in “Piano Jazz” at the Conservatoire of Napoli. In 2013 he attended the Tuscia Jazz summer school in Bagnoregio (VT) Italy, studying with musicians such as Kurt Rosenwienkel, Aaron Parks and Rosario Giuliani. From 2013 to 2015 he played with the University of London Big Band. Since 2013 he has been playing for public and private events in London with different bands, including duos, trios, quartets and quintets. He is the pianist/band leader of the Black Coffee Band, performing regularly at the King's Head theatre pub in Angel.

This is the second time we have booked the Sound Express Band and as with the first occasion they did not disappoint. Despite restricting them to a far smaller area than they are used to they rose to the occasion captivating everyone with their tunes. I had to intervene at the end to quell the tide of ‘Encore’ requests as I truly believe they’d still be here now ! Thoroughly recommended !

Sound Express band is a vibrant crew of experienced and charismatic musicians with a background ranging from R’n’B to Funk, Latin Jazz and Pop classics. They were exceptionally engaging with the crowd for all their performance; from the early dinner set where it was required to play at a conversational volume level throughout the second part of the night where everyone was feeling the more energetic grooves and melodies while singing along some classic rearranged in a modern and sophisticated style.
