Daniel Yiu

Daniel is a virtuosic multitalented young artist, being the cello scholar of the prestigious Royal College of Music London generously sponsored by both the college and the Croucher Fund. He is also the winner of the most prestigious youth cello concerto competition in Hong Kong — HK School Music Festival, the only gold medalist in the HKCYAA Music Festival cello open category,  and both the champion and gold award at the Superior Culture International Youth Music Festival. Additionally, he received a full scholarship from the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund for outstanding students in music.   Daniel’s cello virtuosity is recognised by officials, being granted performance diplomas such as the ATCL (Associate of Trinity College London) and the LTCL (Licentiate of Trinity College London). Additionally, he also holds an ATCL in piano.   Daniel has studied under under renowned cellists around the globe, including Prof. Amanda Truelove (LSO), Helene Dautry (Renowned French soloist) and Laurent Perrin (Renowned Luxembourg Cellist, former principal cellist of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta).   Daniel has been an active performer for more than ten years as both a soloist and a chamber musician, having numerous performances in world class concert halls in both HK and London such as the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall and City Hall, London Cadogan Hall, the Duke’s Hall, the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall, Wilton Music Hall, Harold Pinter Theatre, Greenwich Theatre , famous churches including St Bartholomew the Great, St John the Baptist, St John’s Smith Square, etc. Daniel performed alongside numerous renowned artist groups including Opera Greenwich, the RCM Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonic Orchestra, Ponte London Orchestra, Kensington Philharmonic Orchestra, Sirius Orchestra, Bloomsbury Chamber Orchestra, YMSO and the HKYP, as well as being the solo cellist for the musical production, Song Queen A Pidgin Opera.   Even though classically trained, Daniel’s love for music transcends genres, constantly taking part in performances of different settings besides classical, including big band jazz, chamber jazz and jazz free improvisation concerts as well as taking part as the only cellist in an Afro music theme based musical production.   He is now also a teacher of hundreds of students, holding positions in multiple renowned schools in the UK and one of the best music services in the Uk, Lewisham Music, and taught at the Cellistizzimo Cello Conservatoiry of Hong Kong.
