Welsh clarinettist Daisy Evans recently graduated with an MA distinction in Solo Clarinet Performance from the Royal Welsh College of Music, studying with Timothy Lines, Robert Plane and John Cooper. During her studies at RWCMD, performance highlights included playing principal clarinet in all the major college orchestras, performing in side-by-side concerts with members of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Welsh National Opera and premiering a wind quintet piece with the New London Chamber Ensemble.  Before attending the RWCMD, Daisy completed her undergraduate degree in clarinet performance at the Birmingham Conservatoire. She studied with Michael Harris, Timothy Lines, Joanna Patton and Mark O’Brien. At the conservatoire she played with all of the college ensembles and was awarded a place to study on the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) Orchestral Training Scheme, which provided her with the opportunity to study in a professional environment.  During her undergraduate degree, Daisy became involved with many different music education and outreach projects after being accepted onto the Birmingham Conservatoire Music and Health programme. She participated in many schemes including CBSO Sparks days, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group Music Maze workshops and Soundbeam classes for special needs children and adults. These experiences inspired Daisy to focus her undergraduate major project on an outreach specialism - Music and Autism. Through focused observation, Daisy planned and implemented her own music workshop series - Explore Music, for autistic adults in Wolverhampton. Daisy continued to develop her interest in music education throughout her postgraduate studies, working with the RWCMD Junior Department and Gwent Music Support Service. Furthermore, she volunteered for many organisations including Arts Active at St David’s Hall and Touch Trust at the Wales Millennium Centre.  Since graduating, Daisy has had a varied freelance career as a performer, teacher and administrator. She performs regularly with the Bute Clarinet Quartet in professional recitals and outreach projects around the UK. She has a clarinet, saxophone, flute and piano teaching position with the Forte School of Music, Cardiff, and is also trained in their early years and classroom programmes. As an administrator, Daisy has experience organising performance opportunities and fundraising events through her volunteer role with Music in Hospitals Wales and she has recently become employed as course administrator for the Cardiff Clarinet Convention. Daisy’s postgraduate studies were generously supported by the EMI Sound Foundation, the Laura Ashley Fund and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
