Cygnet Quartet

Cygnet are experienced and versatile Jazz musicians. Playing a wide mixture of styles without ever compromising on quality. Diane Arthurs (saxes, flute and vocals) with her husband Paul (drums) perform with Emma Breese (piano) and Graham Niblett (bass) all over the south west and Midlands, in Jazz clubs and for private functions. The band expertly creates the atmosphere required at any particular event. For listening, dancing, partying, background through a meal, after dinner cabaret style Jazz or summer fiesta. This flexible band is eclectic in styles and tastes and always suits the mood and occasion when performing. With tenor and baritone saxes, flute and vocals there are never two tunes alike. Cygnet play gentle swing ballads, bouncy favourites from the Great American songbook, a little be-bop, and many groove based pieces by the likes of Grover Washington and Cannonball Adderley. The Latin repertoire is equally varied and includes the popular styles of Bossa-Nova, Samba, and Mambo. Cygnet Duo are available when the venue can't take a full quartet. They have been the regular evening entertainment onboard the UK's largest River Cruiser, they currently play bi-monthly at a pop-up jazz club in Gloucester, are on the local "Jazz on the Terrace" circuit as well as performing in many private dining environments and for functions. Meet the musicians: Diane Arthurs a.k.a. DISAX has been performing this style of music for over 20 years. Something which has taken her all over to country, literally from parks to palaces! She plays sax in Crescendo and JayCee Big Bands, as well as being the regular vocalist for the latter. Diane was trained in primary music education but has recently taken to decision to focus on performance with Cygnet and her All-Woman saxophone quartet: Splanky. Emma Breeses' Jazz ears were woken up in the late 70's by the likes of Oscar Peterson, Manhattan Transfer and Weather Report. She has been living Jazz ever since, playing piano in various small bands ranging from duos to septets.
