London

Cristina Acosta began playing the violin at the age of 5 learning with her father, Gonzalo Acosta. Since the age of 11 she attended the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music. She led the Symphony Orchestra in her final year, ending her time there with a performance of Shostakovitch’s Fifth Symphony in St John’s Smith Square. She studied at Dame Alice Owen’s School, where she led all three orchestras, Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra and Senior String Ensemble. She has taken part in many music courses including Harpenden Musicale, the NCYO and Pro Corda, leading and directing all. From 2012-2014 she was the leader of the National Youth Chamber Orchestra. She was a member of the English Schools’ Orchestra for four years, before becoming their permanent Leader in October 2015 (for a three year contract). For many years Cristina has played regularly as a soloist in school events and local festivals. Her Piano Trio at Junior College was invited to play at the Elgar Room in the Royal Albert Hall in 2013 and in her final year, she played the last movement of the Bruch Concerto with her school orchestra. She was also invited to give two performances of the Bruch Violin Concerto in Harpenden in the summer of 2014. In her gap year, she worked in a school as a Teaching Assistant working with children with special needs. When here, she continued tutoring the school orchestras, as she had done for the Junior orchestras in previous years. She played for many weddings and christenings as part of a quartet, arranging music when necessary. She is currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music with Richard Ireland, where she is part of a piano trio, a quartet and a violin duet. With her groups, she has taken part in several masterclasses and concerts.
