About Cosmati Duo

Experienced string duo based in London and Buckinghamshire, available for weddings, work parties, formal dinners, charity events, and more.
String duo
London
Public liability insurance of £10 million

Masters graduates from the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music, Angelika and Ali are experienced musicians. They met while at the University of York and have enjoyed collaborating in various settings ever since. Together they have performed at a number of locations including York Racecourse, Crathorne Hall Hotel, York Minster, and Westminster Abbey. Angelika and Ali perform music from a selection of genres, from classical to pop, and can perform on both classical and period instruments. Due to the small size of the base group, the duo can enhance more intimate events and standard settings alike. However, they also have a large network base from which to draw, which allows for expansion to string trios or quartets, should that suit a client's wishes. We bring everything which we require to perform - all we need is two chairs!

We booked Cosmati Duo for our wedding Ceremony. Pre to the ceremony they had really good communication regarding arrangements. They were happy to take requests and did a song that we asked. The performance was amazing and friends at the wedding commented how great it was. We would definitely recommend them. Thank you so much for making our wedding memorable :)

Angelika and Ali were great, played a beautiful set for my Father's 80th birthday and even transposed and learned a new piece on fairly short notice. Dad was delighted to have them performing such an intimate recital in his living room and it was also lovely to chat them about music and share a glass of wine afterwards. Thank you very much!

(Within our old quartet) We booked the Howell String Quartet for our wedding ceremony and reception in July, and they were absolutely brilliant. From our first enquiry to the wedding day itself, they were very helpful, accommodated our musical requests and presented a selection of additional music from a variety of genres from which we could choose. They responded to messages quickly, which made planning the day that bit easier. I had written a piece for them to play for the arrival of the bride, which they performed flawlessly having only been given it on the day. Thanks for your brilliant performances!

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Our clients tend to mention their appreciation of how we accommodated their requests. That includes solo performances of pieces for violin or cello alongside our usual setlist, as well as any song or piece requests they may have. These have included 'You've Got the Love' for a wedding, and Bach's Double Violin Concerto for a last-minute birthday party.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

We have performed at the Dickens Inn as a duo, as well as at a house near Richmond Park. We have also performed in many exciting venues, including the Merchant Taylor's Hall in York, Crathorne Hall Hotel, York Minster and Westminster Abbey.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

We particularly love baroque music, including J.S. Bach and Handel, but any chamber music is of interest to us, especially if we are playing together! We have worked with numerous quartets before, including the Bingham String Quartet and the Consone String Quartet, and so they have proved to be sources of inspiration in our own playing.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

A wedding reception for the former organist of Westminster Abbey in the Abbey's College Garden.

Do you have different line-up options?

We are a string duo (violin/viola, cello), but have a wide network of musicians from which to draw, which can allow us to expand the group to larger sizes - predominantly to a string trio or quartet, but further expansion is not out of the question.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We will try to be as flexible as we can to ensure that your event runs smoothly. If timings do change, do let us know and we will do our best to accommodate the changes: this is of course more manageable the further in advance of the event we are informed, but we will always do what we can to ensure a full group even if timings change late in the day.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually set up around half an hour to an hour before the event start time.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Yes! If there are any particular pieces which take your fancy, we would be delighted to include them in our selection for your event. Equally, if there is anything you want which is not in our list, we will do our best to accommodate this request provided we have enough time to arrange this.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

We bring everything except a chair!

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

If you want something which is not in our setlist, we may be able to learn/arrange it regardless. Depending on how much work (eg. just rehearsing, making our own arrangement etc.) goes into allowing this to happen, there may be an additional charge added to our fee.
