Cobalt Brass

Formed in 2015, Cobalt Brass is a versatile chamber ensemble that prides itself on delivering engaging and captivating performances. The group consists of five friends, who met whilst studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, in Manchester (UK). During their time as students, they performed in a broad range of styles and settings, ranging from classical concerts and recitals, to weddings, Christmas events and private functions. In their final year of study at the RNCM, they won both the Philip Jones Brass Award, and the Christopher Rowland Chamber Music Prize (two of the institution’s most fiercely contested accolades). Since graduating, the musicians have enjoyed busy and varied freelance careers, performing individually with some of the country’s leading orchestras (Hallé, Liverpool Philharmonic, Ulster, Opera North, Manchester Camerata), as well as appearing alongside artists such as Nelly Furtado, James, Shed Seven, DJ Spoony, Heather Small, DRS, Lusaint, Myleene Klass, and Alfie Boe. As a collective, Cobalt Brass has performed as part of local radio broadcasts, and appeared on televised projects such as ‘Christmas Carols on ITV’ and ‘Joe Lycett’s Got Your Back’. In 2020, the group also self-produced a virtual concert in aid of the mental health charity ‘Mind’. More recently, the ensemble continues to enjoy performing across a number of genres (predominantly classical, pop, and jazz) in a variety of different settings (including concerts, recitals, recording sessions, awards evenings, university graduations, weddings, private functions, and Christmas events). The musicians are also adept at composing and arranging, so are more than happy to discuss specific requests with clients.
