Born in Middlesbrough, Clare Tunney is a 'Royal Academy of Music' scholarship student where she studies with Kathleen Livingstone, Audrey Hyland and Ian Partridge. She began singing Classical music in 2009 with teacher Miranda Wright in Durham university. Over the five years following, she studied music at The Sage Gatesheads ' Young Musician Programme' and was a member of 'Tees Valley Youth Choir' and 'North East Youth Chorale' . She has been a Soprano soloist for many Oratorio works such as Haydn Creation, Faure Requiem, Duruflé Requiem, Rutter Requiem, Britten Ceremony of Carols and Rejoice in the Lamb, Mozart Missa Brevis in D major and Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, Vivaldi Gloria and Goodhalls Eternal Light. Her operatic roles to date include Valencienne (Cover) in The Merry Widow (Ryedale Festival Opera), Lady Billows in Albert Herring (Samling Academy Foundation) by Britten, Cherubino in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, Dido in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Mrs Sem in Noyes Fludde by Benjamin Britten and most recently was a chorus member in The Royal Academy Opera's production of Handel's Ariodante. Clare has performed in Masterclasses with artists including Claire Booth, Mhairi Lawson, James Baillieu, Paul Farrington, Patricia McMahon, Ann Lampard and Caroline Dowdle, and was part of the first 'Samling Academy Foundation' in 2012 and again in 2013. In her latest Masterclass with Ann Murray DBE she was awarded the 'Inaugural Award of the Guildford Spring Music Festival Bursary' for the most promising singer. Having attained the highest mark in her year for her first end of year recital at the Academy, Clare was awarded the Arthur Burcher Memorial Prize and represented Academy in the 'Kathleen Ferrier Bursary Competition' in October, 2014.
