About Clare

Friendly, accomplished piano teacher, soloist and accompanist based in North Nottinghamshire/South Yorkshire.
Pianist

Hi! I first started playing the organ as a young child before moving on to the piano. I completed all 8 Grades of the ABRSM Practical exams and passed the Piano Teaching DipABRSM Diploma a few years ago when I'd already been teaching piano for several years. So now, my main job is as a piano teacher both in local schools and privately with ages ranging from 7 to 70! Over the years I have accompanied several choirs and singers as well as playing duets with other musicians. This has been on both an informal and formal basis. A highlight of my playing in more recent years has been the experience of playing with other musicians; for so many years playing was very much a solo activity, as you'd expect, but learning to play with others is a completely new skill and discipline which I have enjoyed immensely. This has also developed my sight-reading - something which I was already very good at, and that has been an extremely valuable development for me personally. I regularly play local church organs for morning services and so I am very familiar and happy with this style of music also. My preferred genre to play is both classical (I love Debussy, Chopin, Clementi, Dvorak and Bach particularly) and more modern/contemporary pieces from Einaudi, Coldplay, Crowded House, George Michael, The Beatles to film and theatre/musical music - I could go on! But I am very open to requests either in advance of or at the event, so if you don't see the pieces/songs you'd like, please do let me know. I do have an electric piano and amp that I can bring to events if the venue does not have a piano of its own.

Clare has played the pipe organ at Misterton Parish Church at a number of Sunday services and Carol Services. She is highly competent, able to play anything that is asked of her. This has included accompanying a young vocalist at a Carol Service. I thoroughly recommend her.

Clare is a highly accomplished musician as well as a superb accompanist to any performer. Whether playing the piano as a solo performer, or performing as a duo with a very skilled violinist, or playing the beautiful church organ at our local village church, Clare’s delivery is always a joy. As an accompanist, she is extremely supportive and highly sensitive to the vocalist. Clare lives and breathes music- her auditory memory is quite exceptional and her knowledge of all things musical spans an enormous range. A truly gifted musician. Additionally, she works amazingly with youngsters, getting the very best from her youngest to oldest pupils. Her students thrive in her care, love their lessons and take huge strides in their confidence to perform before an audience .

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

I think most people like the fact that I can usually play what they request and would like to listen or sing along to.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Several churches and wedding reception venues.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Gosh, there's so many! I love watching Peter Bence who is an amazing pianist & the music of film composers such as Hans Zimmer & John Williams. Concert pianists also astound me such as Yuja Wang. In recent years I have really come to love the choral work of Eric Whitacre & Morten Lauridsen. I also love the music of Abba and Crowded House.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

A music concert in church.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I do like to consider myself a very flexible person and appreciate that things can change beyond our control, so as long as I have enough notice, it should not be a problem.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Not at present, sorry!

How much time do you need to set up?

This very much depends on whether the venue has its own piano/keyboard. If this is the case, I need very little time. If I need to bring my own keyboard and amp etc. I would need approximately 30 minutes (assuming a power source is available!).

If I have a piano at my venue, are you happy to perform on that?

Of course - as long as it's in tune and playable!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

I'm open to requests from my listed repertoire as well as songs that aren't included.

Are you able to bring your own piano or keyboard?

Absolutely yes.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

There will be songs that I haven't included on my repertoire list simply because there are too many and I've forgotten them! I am of course happy to learn to play a piece in advance, if it is unfamiliar to me. This may incur and additional charge.
