About Claire Gale

Soprano soloist based in West Sussex, currently studying BMus Classical Vocal Performance at the University of Chichester Conservertoire.
Singer (soprano)
Chichester

Claire is a 23 year old Soprano from Bath, Somerset. She is in her fourth year studying BMus Vocal Performance at the University of Chichester Conservatoire, where she focuses on classical repertoire and is currently preparing to perform her final dissertation recital at the end of the year. During her time at university Claire has been a part of various vocal groups, such as the University Chamber Choir and Otter Consort. These have provided many great opportunities, which include touring to Belgium in 2019, singing at Glynebourne Opera House and Arundel Cathedral and travelling to Liverpool to sing Rutter’s ‘Psalmfest’ at the Cathedral Choirs Weekend in 2019. More recently she sang the part of Galetea in Handel’s ‘Acis and Galetea’ as part of Chichester Festival in 2020, with the University’s Baroque orchestra. At University she has also attended Rotaract Society, Acapella Society and Marching Band, which helped to widen her musical proficiency and knowledge. As well as this, Claire has worked as a Choral Scholar at Arundel Cathedral for the past four years, singing in weekly services and at various extra events such as weddings, funerals and charity services. After University she hopes to undertake a masters programme in classical performance at a Conservatoire in the UK, whilst working as a soloist.

I have known Claire for three years in my capacity as Associate Lecturer in Choral Studies at the University of Chichester Conservatoire. She is a much valued member of our Chamber Choir and Otter Consort, and is currently assisting me as a choral leader in our Upper Voices vocal group. It has been very rewarding to see Claire grow and develop as a young singer over these past years. She has taken several solo roles in our concerts, most recently in a performance of Duruflé Requiem, in which she sang the Pie Jesu. It is a demanding solo and Claire sang it very beautifully with great poise, good breath control, and a lovey warmth of tone. She has also recently taken part in a performance of Handel Acis and Galatea, and an Evensong in our Chapel last week. She is a very reliable leader in the alto section, and is always very positive of spirit, and supportive to the other less experienced members of the group. I have recently invited her in a professional capacity to sing the alto solos in a performance of Handel’s Messiah with Eastbourne Choral Society which I am directing later this month. I would thoroughly recommend her for any professional engagement that you might have coming up.

Claire has performed in a solo capacity on a number of occasions and always delivers an excellent, poised, musical performance. She has been happy to learn demanding repertoire at relatively short notice and has enjoyed the challenge this has provided. Her pure soprano voice is absolutely stunning and has made a number of occasions really special at Arundel Cathedral. I recommend her unreservedly.
