About Christian

Welcome fellow Jazzers and Flapper to The Vintage Modern Pianist. Performer of Foot-stomping Covers - 1920s meets 2020.
Pianist
Waterlooville

Welcome jazzers, flappers and other unsavoury characters to the world of The Vintage Modern Pianist. Performing foot stomping modern hits reworked into a swinging 20s style, The Vintage Modern Pianist transports you to a nameless time, where speakeasies, Moonshine and Prohibition meets the music of the 21st Century. Rap anthems become Ragtime Bangers, Dance Classics become Swingin’ standards, and everyone can dance the Charleston to their favourite Band . So raise your glasses, and down your Manhattans. The Vintage Modern Pianist will now be your Gramophone to the past and present. Influenced by the success of Post Modern Jukebox, and the great jazz age of the early 20th century, the Vintage Modern Pianist is the brainchild of Composer, Arranger and performer Christian Smith. After graduating from The Academy of Contempory music, Christian performed extensively throughout the UK and Europe, playing at luxury hotels, prestigious wedding venues, and even working as a VIP entertainer from everywhere from Thorpe Park to Premier League Football Stadiums. The Vintage Modern Pianist is a combination of Christians love for the jazz of 1920s and the music of 1960s to early 00s. Fusing the songs of the modern era, with the ragtime and swing of the early 20th century, The Vintage Modern Pianist is a foot stomping celebration of over a hundred years of popular music. Available for bookings now both in the UK and abroad.

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

That's no problem at all, I understand things can change. Just try give me as much time as possible as I will need to sort travel arrangements.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Of course, people often ask for this in between sets and it's something I can provide no problem.

How much time do you need to set up?

It generally takes me 30 minutes to an hour in total to set up. Of course if there is a piano at the venue, I'd be happy to use that. This will obvioulsy result in a much shorter set up time!

If I have a piano at my venue, are you happy to perform on that?

Yes of course, so long as it is in working order and is in tune.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

All the songs in my setlist are ready and rehearsed so feel free to pick your favourite songs from my set, and I will add it to the the event repertoire.

Are you able to bring your own piano or keyboard?

Yes absolutely, I bring my own instrument for most of my shows.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Yes, provided you give me ample time prior to the event as I will have to learn the song, and then re-arrange it into a jazz track.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

My clients mostly love the uniqueness of my act. Take, Taylor Swift, Radiohead, Oasis for example...no they're not previous clients - but their greatest hits and much more do feature in my 'Foot Stomping 2020s Playlist". My clients love hearing the way that I weave new bangers into a vintage 1920s style. It's fun, classy and unique.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

St Marys Stadium Harrow Private School Goodwood Revival Queens Hotel Portsmouth Town Hall Hotel London Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire Portsmouth Guildhall Knepp Castle

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Postmodern Jukebox The Jive Aces Jamie Cullum Glenn Miller Duke Ellington Bill Evans Oscar Peterson John Coltrane George Shearing

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Well it's hard to top playing at the world famous Harrow School for a private event this year!

Christian played for our event and it was amazing! All of the guests loved the music and the fantastic atmosphere he created! The booking process and correspondence was also entirely flawless and Christian was a pleasure to work with. Excellent stuff and I would have no hesitation in placing another booking in the future. Many thanks 👍

We booked Christian to play at our wedding whilst guests ate and milled about, as we thought he'd be perfect because his repertoire was filled with modern songs done with a jazz twist. We could not have been more thrilled with Christian. Not only was he super communicative leading up to the wedding, but he also allowed us to suggest some songs that he would learn for the big day. On the day Christian was fantastic. Everyone loved the vibe he created and his rendition of Taylor Swift's 'Shake It Off' went down particularly well! ;) I'd have no hesitation in recommending Christian to anyone wanting a fun, yet classy, pianist to play at their function. Thank you so much!
