Chris Murphy

Chris has been singing since the age of 10 and has performed a wide variety of music. He grew up in Maidenhead, Berkshire and was a member of Taplow choirs before moving on to sing as a Bass choral scholar at Southwark Cathedral. After Southwark Chris moved to York to begin his undergraduate degree in music, where he performed a number of operatic and musical theatre roles and engaged with a number of groups as a choral singer. As a choral singer, Chris held the post of Bass choral scholar at York Minster during the 2017-18 academic year, performing close harmony and polyphonic concerts with fellow choral scholars. At the university, Chris performed with the 24 (directed by Robert Hollingworth), Yorkshire Bach Choir, The Willow consort, Vox Acappella group and University of York chamber choir. His operatic credits include Sid (Albert Herring, 2017), Mr. Lindquist (A little night music, 2017), Junius (Rape of Lucretia, 2016), Spirit (Dido and Aeneas, 2016) and Sasha (Paradise Moscow, 2015). Musical theatre credits include Elder Cunningham (Book of Mormon as part of Musical theatre showcase, 2018), Roscoe (Singing in the Rain, 2017) and The Emcee (Cabaret, 2013). Chris is starting as a Stipendiary Clerk at Magdalen College Oxford in September 2018 and is looking to join other groups as a bass in Oxford.
