I’m Chithrinie Nirupama, a classically trained sitarist and composer with a passion for creating magical moments through music. Based in Derby, United Kingdom, I specialize in offering elegant, culturally enriched performances for weddings and special occasions, bringing the timeless beauty of Indian and Pakistani musical traditions to life. Why I Perform Music: Music has always been a transformative force in my life. From a young age, I found a deep connection to the sitar, and I’ve devoted my life to its mastery. My performances are not just about playing notes; they’re about crafting experiences. How I Became Qualified: My musical journey began in Sri Lanka, where I received rigorous classical training in sitar. I completed my BA in Music at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, earning the highest GPA in the faculty. I also completed the Visharada title exams at Bhathkande College of Music in Lucknow, India, where I earned First Division passes in every examination. Seeking further growth, I moved to the UK to pursue a Master’s degree in Music Technology at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where I developed an interest in blending acoustic sitar with electronic sound effects. This blend of traditional and modern influences informs my music, allowing me to tailor each performance to the specific atmosphere and theme of the event, especially weddings with Indian or Mughal inspirations. Performing Highlights: Over the years, I’ve had the honor of performing at a variety of prestigious events, collaborating with renowned musicians from around the world. One of the most rewarding experiences was contributing to the soundtrack of Netflix’s Wheelman, where I was able to bring the sitar into an unexpected cinematic context. I’ve also worked on Expedia’s The World in Tune, a project that showcased the global possibilities of music. As a composer, I’ve released my debut EP, The Four Seasons, which illustrates the beauty of nature through sitar, violin, and flute, and I’ve created sitar sample libraries for companies like SPLICE, Zenhiser,Q UP. I also regularly perform my own compositions, often using Pro Tools and Ableton Live, where I loop and manipulate the sitar to create cinematic effects, blending Indian classical music with genres such as jazz, folk, and electronic music.
