For over a decade ‘Norman Mackay’s Ceilidh Experience’ has been leading the way revolutionising the ceilidh dance music scene. Now the 'go-to' ceilidh band of choice for for Rock stars, soap stars and famous politicians, they have performed at wedding ceilidhs, student ceilidhs, parties, and festival ceilidhs and provided bespoke corporate entertainment at events all over Scotland, the UK and throughout Europe. Although they play for Scottish dancing, they are certainly not your average ‘traditional ceilidh band! With an accordion triggering midi samples through an i-pad, an electric fiddle plugged into a speaker stack, a rock god guitarist and a Polish drum virtuoso with several years under his belt as a session drummer on the Manhattan Jazz scene. Add to the mix their in-house DJ, and you can rest assured that your party is in safe hands! The Ceilidh Experience are the longest-serving resident ceilidh band at The Ghillie Dhu in Edinburgh’s West End, where we have been performing at their famous Burly Ceilidh Club, private parties, Burns Nights, student ceilidhs, Christmas ceilidhs and corporate events since 2010.

Here I am finally. I never get around to writing reviews for anything, and I'm 4 months late for this incredible band but after giving us the best Wedding Day ever, I couldn't let them down. The Ceilidh Experience hosted our wedding ceilidh in Glencoe November 2022. About 60% of our guests were non-Scots, and the caller expertly guided them around the dances. So many of our friends are still talking about their first Ceilidh, and booking trips to explore more of Scotland. I cannot recommend this band enough, they were totally above expectations. Friendly, funny on the mic, brilliant musicians, passionate about ceilidhing and they were hands down the highlight of my Wedding Day. Their interesting style makes it for a brilliant Ceilidh, taken to a new level. Our guests loved the brief pop/rock music interludes between dances, and truly think no ceilidh band is complete without an accordion. Book them now, you won't regret it!

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event it shouldn't make too much difference. Just let us know, and we can update it on the bands booking system!

Do you provide a caller?

Most of the dances we do are pretty straight forward. The band will explain the moves a couple of times at the start. If you’d prefer a separate caller (who can call along with the music when required) please request ‘Damien’ as DJ. Damien is a fantastic dance caller and will be out on the floor with his radio mic, providing as much instruction as you need!
