Cassandra Mathews has always had a passion for delivering all styles of music to new audiences and has beautiful architecture to all of her performances, both solo and within ensembles. "...musical sense and understanding are at the heart of Cassandra's playing..." "...her instinct for cadence and pause are unerring..." Cassandra graduated from the Royal College of Music in 2014 with a 1st Class Honours Bachelor of Music. She studied primarily with Gary Ryan, but also received coaching from Chris Stell and extra lessons with Craig Ogden and Jakob Lindberg on the lute. During her time at the RCM, she took part in masterclasses with John Williams, Stefan Lӧfvenius, Carlos Bonell, Jason Vieaux, and Julian Byzantine as well as performing at Queen Elisabeth Hall and the Purcell Room as part of “The Rest Is Noise” Festival 2013. She premiered new guitar works at the National Portrait Gallery and the Martin Harris Centre. She was the winner of the Lennox Berkeley Guitar Prize 2012 and was the given a Highly Commended Award for the annual Royal College of Music Guitar Competition in both 2014 and 2012. Cassandra performed a selection of works by Joaquin Rodrigo at the Instituto Cervantes at the presentation of 'Voice and Vision' in 2016 to Cecilia Rodrigo and other distinguished guests. Cassandra was also selected to represent the RCM at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart in an Erasmus exchange programme in 2012. Cassandra has worked as a guitar vocalist aboard luxury cruise ships, hotels and resorts all over the world. She currently works for the Royal Albert Hall as part of Albert's Band, where she specialises in delivering performances in care and community settings.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

People often say that I bring a warm and friendly feeling to the gigs which I play. I am also approachable, so people never have to worry about asking for requests. I also bring a classy and sophisticated vibe to my performances.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

I love the music of Joni Mitchell and Carole King. They have such beautiful voices and great stories to tell in their lyrics. I have always looked up to Julian Bream as a classical guitarist, and love the palette of colours that he uses when playing the guitar. A bit of The Beatles and Radiohead is always good too!

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I have played at the Snooker Masters Tournament in Cluj-Napoca in Romania with my duo partner (violinist Sabina Virtosu). There were certainly a few TV cameras rolling at the time in the arena!

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

This is no problem at all. I am more than happy to accommodate any changes in timings. Please try and give as much notice as you can, so I can adjust any travel plans.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes I can. If you'd like a DJ service in between live sets and for up to 3 hours after the final set, I provide this for an additional £150.

How much time do you need to set up?

I have a very short setup time, as it's just me! I generally need no longer than about 15 minutes.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Of course! I can also display my set list during the performance, so that people can choose songs (a bit like a live jukebox!).

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes! Less stress for you!

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

That is no problem for me at all. Seeing as I work as a soloist, it doesn't take me long to perfect the songs that you want to hear. There are certain songs which don't always suit a guitar vocalist, but I will always try my best to get it done for you!
