Carrie Thompson ATCL grew up in Swansea, South Wales and is in her third year studying at the Royal Academy of Music where she holds The Elton John and Philip Hattey scholarships. She studies with Glenville Hargreaves and Audrey Hyland. In her first year at the Academy, she won the Arthur Burcher Memorial Prize for her end of year performance.
Carrie’s passion for singing started as a chorister in All Saint’s Church, Swansea where she ultimately achieved a Royal School of Church Music Gold Medal. She has also enjoyed Musical Theatre where as a member of Class Act Theatre School she performed the roles of Eponine in Les Miserables, Eve in Children of Eden, Gabriella in High School Musical 2 and Sleeping Beauty in Christmas Pantomime.
To further her singing ambition, Carrie completed her sixth form years at Chetham’s School of Music, Manchester. At Chetham’s, she had opportunities to sing with the chamber choir in The Bridgewater Hall, Royal Festival Hall performing Verdi Requiem and Elijah in the Royal Albert Hall for the BBC Proms. Carrie also performed as a soloist in Manchester and London and was soloist for a group of recitals taking place in William Walton’s Italian home in Ischia.
Opera has always been a particular joy for Carrie. In 2007 she was part of the Welsh National Youth Opera Company where she performed in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress. She has also sung roles in various opera scenes, in particular Yum- Yum from the Mikado, Rosalinda from Die Fledermaus and the Mother from Amahl and the Night Visitors. In July 2012, Carrie took part in the Royal Academy of Music Singers Opera School in Liguria, Italy where she performed the role of the Countess from Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro in various scenes concerts. Carrie was also a finalist in the 2013 Young Kathleen Ferrier Bursary.
Carrie has performed with many choirs. Whilst a member of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, Carrie performed a solo in Coventry Cathedral in 2010 and also took part in the recording of Karl Jenkins’s ‘Gloria’. As a member of the Swansea based choir, The Ariosa Singers, Carrie has performed as a soloist in Paris, Barcelona, Ireland, Prague, Tuscany and Venice. Also, she has given solo performances with several local male voice choirs in Swansea including The Pontarddulais Male Voice Choir, the Dunvant Male Voice Choir, the Swansea Male Voice Choir and Morriston RFC Male Voice Choir.
Most Recently, Carrie has been the Anthem singer for the Welsh Football team in their FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Serbia, Macedonia and Finland at Cardiff City Stadium.
