Contemporary world music ensemble that explores the musical traditions from afro-brazilian, portuguese and west african cultures.

With feet planted firmly in the traditions of Afro-Brazilian music, Caravela’s heart is full of the soaring creativity and fervour that comes with improvised jazz. Weaving melodies around vibrant South American and West African-inspired rhythms, their music is sensitive and full of passion, energy and life. Like the physalia physalis they take their name from, Caravela are setting out to explore territories unknown. Uncovering music that others have left behind or simply long-forgotten, they write and give a new voice to songs that should not remain silent.

Do you have different line-up options?

Yes. We can perform as a duo, trio, quartet and quintet. Also, we can also have a horns section if requested.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We will try our best to find a solution in case that changes our availability. Just let us know in advance.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

We can provide an Ipod.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually set up about 1 to 1.5 hours before the performance time. As soon as our PA is set up we can provide a free playlist service to help set the atmosphere and get your guests ready for our live performance!

Can you roam around while you perform?

No.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

We can definitely talk about it and find a set list that works for both of us.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

Our PA system is based on individual amplifiers and we don't have lighting.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If it's a song that we don't perform normally, then we could potentially take up to 3 requests. Just let us know in advance.

Caravela were such a special part of our wedding day, and we were so impressed by their professionalism and commitment to making the music absolutely spot on. They set a lively and atmospheric mood with their set list of Bossa Nova and Jazz, and later in the evening played their take on some of our requested tunes including Jewish celebration music and other more contemporary songs. Caravela’s musicianship is some of the best on the scene and we were so thrilled that they were a part of our wedding. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them and hope to be able to book them again for our next party!
