Classical Guitarist
Manchester

With a reputation for the avant-garde, Callum Coomber aims to provide mind opening experiences. His choice of repertoire favours new music that focuses on extended techniques and visual aspects of music. Callum is currently studying classical guitar at the Royal Northern College of Music with world renowned guitarist Craig Ogden; contemporary guitar specialist Tom McKinney and ensembles with Rory Russell who is part of one of Britain’s leading chamber groups, the Aquarelle Guitar Quartet. In November 2016 Callum performed Sir Richard Rodney Bennett’s Guitar Concerto at the Royal Northern College of Music with much success. And in 2017 he will be premiering a new concerto for classical guitar/electric guitar/banjo, orchestra and choir by Nate Chivers. This collaboration will aim to push the boundaries between these instruments despite their similarities. He will also be performing Joaquin Rodrigo’s famous Concierto de Aranjuez in 2018 alongside the Puffin Ensemble in an outdoors summer soiree. Developing relationship with composers Callum will be taking part in an ensemble project with Eyvind Gulbrandsen which will culminate with a premiere at Hull UK City of Culture 2017. The piece is likely to involve improvisation and a link to Hull’s fishing heritage. Eyvind composes very closely with ensembles to tailor the piece to them so much so that his compositions can only be played by the people they are written for. Callum will also be premiering a duet for bowed guitar and banjo in March 2017 at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation.
