About CUMS Concert Orchestra

CUMS Concert Orchestra, which was formerly CUMS II, is the Society’s second symphony orchestra
Cambridge

A word from Quintin Beer, CUMS CO Conductor 2014-2015: “CUMS Concert Orchestra, which was formerly CUMS II, is the Society’s second symphony orchestra. The orchestra performs one concert a term, and plays a challenging programme of popular symphonic works. Recent performances have included Mahler’s Symphony No.4, Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2, Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune and the world première of Toby Young’s Bucolic Comedies. This orchestra has always offered fantastic opportunities for the University’s student conductors and soloists and in the past has played under the baton of Sir David Willcocks, Sir John Eliot Gardiner and Edward Higginbottom. Students thoroughly enjoy being able to take part in an ensemble which achieves such high standards in a more relaxed environment.”
