CARACANA are an uplifting established popular Nos Lowen or Cornish Ceilidh Folk Group playing music from their native land of Cornwall as well as Ireland, Scotland, Wales & Brittany & beyond. CARACANA have become a sought after Ceilidh Band on the Cornish Folk scene. They have also represented Cornwall at the Interceltic Lorient Music Festival in France. We cover Barn Dances, Wedding Receptions, Birthday & Anniversary Parties as well as Nos Lowen & Ceilidh Folk Festivals & Events. We cover all of Cornwall, Devon, & the South West Region. The line up is Double Bass, Fiddles, Clarinet, Guitar all with Vocals & Percussion. We provide our own PA System, plus we can provide Lead Dancers to demonstrate the Dances if reqd.

Caracana were fantastic! They were incredibly professional and friendly, and such talented musicians. The lead dancers made all the dances accessible and fun for everyone. I can’t recommend them enough!

Alex was the perfect host! She couldn't have done more to look after us and make us feel welcome. The ceilidh was filled with her friends and family who all danced with great enthusiasm, so the atmosphere was fabulously fun. What a lovely night!

We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! The atmosphere was fantastic, the host couldn't have done any more to make us feel comfortable and welcome and people danced and had a great night!

This group was very professional but also very friendly and helpful. They provided the entertainment exactly as asked and it was enjoyed by all. The music was played at an acceptable level, not too loud or too quiet. The guiding dancers were patient with inexperienced novices and helped us to participate quite well, even the children. We would recommend Caracana as an additional entertainment to a disco.

Charity Auction, Charlestown 13th Nov 2015. I just wanted to say a huge Thank You to you and your Band once again for playing on Friday night for our Ch arity Auction. You were great.So many people have come up to tell us how much they enjoyed listening to you.

Customer questions

Can you perform covers?

Not really! We can perform some popular songs such as Mhairi's Wedding, County Down and Tell Me Ma, but most of our material is original or traditional Celtic Folk.

Do you have different line-up options?

We have a fixed line-up of four: Fiddle, clarinet, guitar and double bass (we all sing too!) although we do sometimes perform as a trio. However, we can add to our number by having a couple of dance leaders (instructors) on the dance floor.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely. This is a really popular request and we actually offer to play music from a playlist on an iPod for free, with no problem.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually set up about 1.5 to 2 hours before the performance time. As soon as our PA is set up we can provide a free playlist service to help set the atmosphere and get your guests ready for our live performance!

Do you provide a caller?

We don't have a caller as part of our natural line-up, but we can provide one on request. However, we do have dance leaders who can show the way, so usually a caller is not necessary.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Our set lists are crafted from countless performances and learning what works best to ensure guests dance and have an amazing time. However, we're definitely happy to chat through and make sure we find what works for your event.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA) included in your quote?

Our PA system is included in your quote. We usually require a minimum space of 12ft by 8ft to perform and we do need to plug into (usually mains) power.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If a song isn't included in our song list there may still be a chance we already know it. If there is a special song you'd like us to learn we are happy to do this for you. There is a fee of £30 for this service to take into account rehearsal times etc.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Our originality, gorgeous harmonies and cheerful enthusiasm!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Numerous stages at the 'Festival Interceltique de L'Orient', Brittany, Salle de Bignan, Brittany, Princess Pavillions, Falmouth, The Eden Project, St Austell, St Michael's Mount, Ponsmere Hotel, Perranporth, Atlantic Hotel, Newquay, The Headland Hotel, Newquay, Seiner's Arms, Newquay, plus numerous other outdoor venues, festivals parties and tipi's!

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

I would say that we have been most inspired by (rather than influenced); The Incredible String Band, Dry The River, Joni Mitchell, Dalla, Groupa, Phillip Henry/Hannah Martin and the great collective of folk artists across the Celtic Nations.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

It's a toss up between supporting The Incredible String Band at The Eden Project and representing Cornwall at the 'Festival Interceltique de L'Orient' in Brittany - you choose!
